So called "Epic battle"?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:53 pm

Verbally, it truly is an epic battle. Ulysses really opens your eyes to your faction's downsides and makes you stop and think "Is it really right for me to back up faction X?" Really, that's what the developers had in mind from the start and Ulysses simply makes that whole process so much more different.

As for the battle, it's just like any battle with a super powerful enemy. Just shoot him till he's dead. Can't really make a battle that epic with Gamebryo.

While I can't exactly comment on the Ulysses' physical fight as I always side with him, I must say the verbal acrobatics throughout the DLC are very satisfying.

As for actually epic fights because of the DLC, excluding anything like the irradiated Deathclaws or Rawr, I swear the battle with Gaius Magnus is probably the most impressive fight I've had in the whole game. It was like a massive game of stamina really since he healed faster than I could damage him with the majority of my weapons so it became a really long game of crippling his limbs and destroying each weapon as he picked them up. Cass and Ed-E went down fairly quickly so they weren't a whole lot of help and all the while I had to try and clear out of the lesser irradiated Legion members as well. Many bullets and RadAways later I finally switched to the shoulder mounted machine-gun and just dumped as many rounds into him as I could til he went down. The fight lasted around an hour I think and it was absolutely amazing. :D

Yea, that is some intense combat man. Im gonna take a shot at him on my next playthough. I had a similar experience when I fought the last NCR Veteran Ranger during the final Legion mission, right before you get to General Oliver and yea, he sent me back to the loading screen many times so I had to try different strategies cause his gun was taking off huge chunks of my health very quickly. It lasted about 45 minutes. He was the toughest oponent I ever had. He had a lot of HP but he wasnt a bullet sponge really. His gun just did a lot of damage and most of his attacks were headshots so I kept getting stunned or crippled and I couldnt move. That was a time when I actually thought I couldnt beat the game unless I lowered the difficulty but I kept at it and finnally put him down with like 6 hp left. It was great.

What battle? I never got to fight him. We talked and he said he would meet up with me later.

Normal is a little too easy, but the alternative is to have enemies just have more HP, which isn't really any harder at all, just kind of annoying.

Exactly. The difficulty setting setting are: "joke, easier, easy, annoying, [censored] annoying" :lmao:

Which is why i use mods for difficulty. Character with endurance 1 and no HP increase from leveling up, everything but radroaches kill her in one hit :lmao:

Everyone knows the battle should go like this:
1. Shoot Ulysses' 12mm SMG, AMR and take them.
2. Ulysses must now use Old Glory
3. Equip Katana
4. ?
5. Epic Battle (as epic as gamebryo gets)
This. That's what I did, it was the most action packed moment of the game.

And it's better that way. I think that's how it was intended for you to be playing. Dont let the term "Normal" confuse you. That's just a setting for people who build up a weakling character.

No. Normal is for people who want to play on Normal difficulty. It's considered the default setting because that's how the developers designed the game to be played. That's why there's a "scale." Scale is a word that denotes measurement, which in this case, is for difficulty. If you aren't having an easy time on normal, go to easy or very easy. If you want a challenge, go to hard or very hard. Don't be a troll, dude.

Uuuum - i started this threat because i thought the battle was too easy, but you guys convinced me that the battle IS tough, and i just was overpowered. Today i finished lonesome road with my level 22 charecter, and the battle versus ullysses took 30 seconds  E-DE started to charge him, and i sprayed 40mm grenades after him, and his was so busy with E-DE, that i didn't loose a single HP (The marked men got me a little, but not ullysses). You can say what ever you want. When i can defeat him at level 22 - he isnt tough. Im sorry.

If you want a challenge, Try it on "Expert Mode" (Very Hard, hardcoe, No Fast Travel, And if you want No V.A.T.S) So far i'm level 12 and i've only done the main quest up to the point where you kill Benny then i am going back to do the basic quests and when i get 24,00 Bottle Caps i will buy the Bozar(My favourite gun) and head to OWB then do some quests and head to HH then DM then do some more quests and at level 30 go to LR.

I don't use vats, and i play on hardcoe mode. But the other "expert mode" things just makes the game annoying - not challeging.

Well hardcoe isn't the same if you can Fast travel to a water source, Bed, or food shop.

And with something like Combat armour Reinforced Mk II and a anti material rifle with .50 MG explosive rounds and 50+ stimpacks is too easy so on Very hard it make it harder. IMO

I only visit my safehouse to store all the stuff i find. And i got the portable role bed kit, the vault 13 canteen, so i only have to worry about food. But i don't have that in my inventory. I hunt for it :toughninja:

And i don't use overpowered weapon. I use thump thump and the ranger sequioa.

Wrong. The npc's weapons and armor are in poor to moderate condition, most of them dont use the most powerful ammo types and none of them have as many perks as you do if at all, so playing on very hard compensates for it. Ulysses has 2 perks - Finesse and Toughness and if you have one of the level 50 perks, his Finesse perk cant affect you at all. I can kill Ulysses with 2-3 shots on normal. This CANNOT be as powerful as the devs intended him to be.

Considering that he's, as far as we know, a mostly normal human... yes. It probably is. He's not a power armored goon or super mutant, a freakish mutant fused to tech, or some ludicrously tough tribal nutjob in heavy metal armor. He's a glorified scout wearing an old duster.

And what the heck are you hitting him with that's killing him in 2-3 shots? Man has around a thousand hit points, for crying out loud!

Maximum damage criticals with the Tri-beam Laser Rifle (GRA). It rarely happens 3 times in a row but it's possible. On Very hard it takes an average of 7 shots, minimum 6 with Just Lucky Im Alive. If I dont kill him within 7 shots in the beginning he becomes harder to damage. If it's a not a critical his health bar wont budge and then he blinds me with a flash bang.

So... you're complaining that a guy dies quickly when you're power gaming? Really? With that set up, I'd be more worried about him not dying quickly.
