Calling all AMD Card users - do you have Black Lava?

Post » Sun Oct 27, 2013 6:04 am

Greetings friends, I am in need of help. I have a new computer, and I have begun seriously playing Oblivion again.

However, I have discovered a bug in Oblivion's Liquid Water module for OBGE, at this point the bug appears to affect only AMD cards, and appears not to be model specific.

The bug itself is very specific - the Lava in Oblivion realms fails to render properly. In brief, the Lave renders as a flat plane, it reflects the colour of the Sky, but has no other reflections and no texture.

1. The Bug only appears to manifest with Lava

2. Thus far it has only been observed in Oblivion Exteriors, not interiors or in Tamriel (Oblivion interiors have not been tested).

3. Forcing the weather in Oblivion to change to Tamriel weather will make the Lave blue, but otherwise have no effect.

4. Water works in an Oblivion Exterior.

5. Removing the Oblivion Worldspace tag from the world make no difference.

6. Changing the sun texture to the Tamriel one makes no difference (by default it is black).

7. Disabling Overide in OBGE (all replacer shaders) fixes the issue.

8. Using the OBGE Retro Core, basically killing Liquid Water, fixes the problem.

9 The issue manifests with just Liquid Water loaded.

10 The issue has been observed on an HD 7900 and HD 6900 series chip, so the issue is not just with cards - so this would appear to be the driver rather than the chip, as the HD 6900 series chip used to handle Lava properly.

Sorry, I can't hep on the AMD front, but I do use OBGE and can't say I've seen the problem...likely because I use an Nvidia card, however, the reason I'm here is to offer a possible alternative for the lava.

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/9820/?tab=1&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D9820%26preview%3D&pUp=1. The result is both beautiful and deadly. Certainly it's not a fix for your issue, but perhaps maybe a workaround.
