EA calling Crysis 2 " The Halo Killer"

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 4:44 am

First i want to say im a fan of Crysis and im every excited about Crysis 2, but i was kinda upset to hear that EA was calling it the Halo killer. In Edge Magazine EA lable president Frank Gibeau said that their goal was to make a Halo killer, Crysis has a good shot at doing so -and i understand wanting to beat the competition- but Halo is still a masterpiece and the people at Crytek should understand and respect the hard work Bungie put into it more than anyone.I guess as a Crysis fan i was just dissapointed in this claim , I would like to think the only goal was to make the best FPS game for gamers. It wasnt the smartest claim to make cause now true Halo fans probably wont even give the game a shot now, But this is all something any true gamer would know.Ill say it right now though i do think Crysis is the best FPS game ever , but i just see all games for what they are....Art

I don't think there would've been any disrespect towards the Halo franchise from the comment. It is a business and it is a competition of sales. Do you get upset by the Mac vs PC advertisemants on TV? They're just a bit of fun and a bit of healthy competition, which goes a long way and is good for everyone in the end :)

Doesn't every company say that when they are releasing a Sci-Fi FPS?

Hahaha and they want to surpass CoD also.

Sorry Crytek, its not going to happen until CoD and Halo playcounts personally hit the dirt. Only once those games hit the ditch on their own, then a new game will step in. I also dont think this will happen until maybe three years from now. :)

I think this quote is originally talking about EA's goals and them hoping Crysis 2 is the game to achieve this one :) For the Call of Duty comment by Nathan... it was actually taken out of context unfortunately, but it happens sometimes. As always, for Crytek the goal remains simple, make a game that surpasses Crysis and bring a great gameplay experience to PC and console players.

If people ask you questions along the lines of "do you want to surpass call of duty" or something like this, I think the answer is always yes, why not shoot for the top? :)

Edit: this seems entirely ON TOPIC, why is it in the off topic section? :)

As for the Singleplayer... hell thats one easy job to surpass these lowlifes.
Halo and COD are such prehistoric no brainers.
Even Duke 3d gave you more options in how you can play the game.
But playing COD is as strict as a book or a movie. Seen once..always the same scripted **** over and over. Man thats maybe good for 2002 but now its almost 2011!
You know why Halo is so unpopular on Pc and COD doesnt sell good on PC?
Because both games are reactonary as hell. Only milestones on consoles, because they made shooters famous on these platforms. Mr Yerli mentioned ( very suitable) that ego shooters on consoles are 4-5 years behind Pc Shooters. I would sign that!
No one would touch these prehistoric kind of crap if they could play crysis.

cause there are less 12 years old kids playing in the pc? xD
you just need to look at the kind of chat that goes on a mp game like cod in xbox/ps3 and on a game on pc, generally pc users are much more mature

It's called marketing.

EA has little to do with the actual development of Crysis 2.

Halo already has been killed IMO.
It's a shame to see such a high-quality game beaten by something that gets shot out every year (CoD).
Halo: Reach has a couple features that the players generally dislike - and they're slowly abandoning it.
Crysis could beat Halo if the marketing is done right (Ironically, beating Halo is a marketing scheme within itself, witch is why the claim to the "throne" is is tossed around so often).

CoD on the other hand... For the current time, is invincible...
But nothing lasts forever.

im sorry but of course COD beat halo ..look at what all you can play COD on 360,PS3, and PC. Halo is just a 360 game and fell short just 5 million copies last time i checked. For COD to just barley sold more than HALO is a fail in my book seeing how you can play black ops on so many platforms.Im just saying in all this that crysis 2 is really going to have to be smart in marketing if they want to beat Halo reach. Hope they do so but im worried they might not. Goodluck Cryteck i really hope you do well.

CoD is beating Halo on Xbox alone.
In both sales and players online.

nope

He's right - CoD4, MW2, and Black Ops are beating Halo on Xbox alone.

CoD4? Really? I find that hard to believe.
Then again, Reach was kind of a let down in game-play. :/

Reach, from Halo, COD4-5 and MOD. That's what Crysis to Crysis 2 has been fighting for so long.

Personally I don't believe that Crysis 2 kill Halo or CoD but Crysis 3 or 4 might actually top them because after console players see the Cryengine 3 power on consoles and Crysis' Open gameplay rather than CoD's linear gameplay with lots of scripted events and animations and the game plays for itself (like on the last level when the helicopter's height is not controlled by the player) and when you play the game for a 2nd time it makes the game dull and very very repetitive since you can predict almost anything, yet on crysis there was a lot of ways to complete the objectives, going on foot, going by the jungle, going on a car, by boat, etc, I believe that Console players will be attracted by the amount of destructibility and freedom from crysis 2, then it will get popular and crysis 3 will top CoD or halo

I could care less if it beats Halo or CoD in sales (even though I would jump for joy if they could move 1 million units through digital distribution for the PC), but I expect a few things done better than those two loved franchises

#1 A better single player campaign. I mean something that EVERY gamer will remember and will make them want to continue the story in Crysis 3. A main antagonist to end all antagonist, a DEVELOPED alien culture (world, technology, why is the threat on earth, have CG films depicting the alien world. Make the alien threat seem plausible... I want a story as well thought out as the Mass Effect tale.

#2 Open environments. While I don't expect the freedom we experienced in Crysis (and less so in Warhead) I expect the environments to be much larger than the ones in Halo and COD.

#3 Varied MULTiPLAYER maps and skins

If you can do that AND advertise the game, EA/Crytek will be on their way to providing a Halo/CoD killer.

@Dreohboy
A better single player than Halo and CoD isn't saying much... :/
Halo had it's moments though.

CoD is very open-world, despite what you might think at first.
The maps are so poorly sealed off that escaping them can be as simple as smashing a window, crouching, and walking out... Infinite freedom!
