The show is badass, frankly. I've been waiting for a few more episodes to show up on On Demand.
Just watched episode 4. I've been wondering, in the real history was Merlin Arthur's ally, as depicted in this show, or his enemy, like in the film with Clive Owen?
Camelot hems a bit closer to Arthurian mythology regarding Merlin than say,
BBC's Merlin. But it's still not a perfect interpretation. Merlin was Arthur's mentor, and from what I've read, never malevolent. It also flubs a few things, too. From what I know, Morgana is Arthur's half-sister, yes, but not a daughter of Uther Pendragon, but of Gorlois of Cornwall and her mother is actually Igraine, same as Arthur. It also adds a few characters, but that's okay. I'm particularly pleased that Kay is actually an important character.
I personally think Camelot is going for a more gritty, less romantic interpretation of Arthurian mythology, like the movie with Clive Owen, but not trying to ground it in historical fact. I like it.
Note: Personally, I think
Excalibur was the finest interpretation of Arthurian myths.
