Camera Perspective

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 5:36 am

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3 have had notoriously bad 3rd person views. Some, maybe even many, don't care. "It's not what the series is known for, so why should I care?" They might say.
I'm holding out hope that Skyrim will have a killer 3rd person camera. I collect armor and weapons, I put time into creating my character, so why does it feel like I'm being punished for wanting to see it? My choice for this poll is third person. I will undoubtedly play in the 1st person for most of the time, but I still like the option to switch to a view that is actually worth playing.

How do you guys feel?

I want the game to be first-person based. However I want to be able to switch to 3rd so I can admire my character.

How do you mean the third person camera was bad in TES and Fallout games? I have played through each game several times basically using third person view throughout and I was fairly content with how it worked. Over the shoulder works okay for me.

I generally play in third person. You have peripheral vision and don't have to swing the camera around as much to see the environment around you. I usually switch to first person for combat or examining things close up.

And has been noted, I like seeing my armor, clothes, weapons etc.

I liked the fist person view in Oblivion better than the third person view.

I would like a balance of both. I like to go in first-person whenever I'm in combat or admiring scenery, but use third-person to look at my armour/character when I'm just walking around or sitting down.

TES and Fallout were really made for first person. In third person, the animations are clunky, combat is disjointed, and overall it's just not very polished or smooth looking. I will always prefer first person over third in TES, but it would be nice if Bethesda made a more worthy third person experience. With this new engine Bethesda has though, who knows what's going on.

Third person camera was clunky and damn near impossible to aim with. It also had a tendency of getting stuck on every in-game object,

First person all the way for me. TES would never be the same without it imo. :grad:

I like using both first and third person camera perspective. I'd say 95% of the time I use first person, but I like using third person when I'm out walking in the forests or in towns, not doing anything important. Third could be drastically improved, though.

FONV was much improved over FO3 and TESIII and IV. What I meant by bad was the animation. Third person in Oblivion was like watching your character ice skate over terrain. It looks so silly. It works in the sense that you get to see more of the world around you, but it's not pretty.

Oh, the animation. Well, it was never so bad as to really bother me, but I usually installed a player-made animation mod when one I liked better than vanilla was available. Still, I'm primarily a third person player and while it's not perfect in Bethesda games, I was always fairly satisfied with it. Of course, I always welcome improvements.

I love having first person for being the ultimate bow/assassin sharpshooter and what not, but i put a lot of time into the making of my character, and what colors and combination of clothes hes wearing at each time. Im always the one to put on a nice outfit if im going inside, instead of alking into a royal feast in satan's battle armor. I i think we should be able to benefit form both of these camera perspectives.

First person for sure. I like that there has always been the ability to switch to third-person, since it's nice to see what you look like every once in a while. But for actual playing, I prefer first-person as I think it's more immersive and brings me into the game more.

Bethesda's been trying pretty hard to improve the third-person cameras in their games. They just aren't good at it is all.

1st person all the way! If i want to look at a guys ass I'll turn gay thanks. 1st person is far more immersive than looking at someone's back! 3rd person is terrible and leaves you feeling detached from the world...unless you constantly have outer body experiences, if so see a priest or every crappy rpg out there!

Both should be in. And obviously no one can be against a better third person view, so I'm all for it XD
