[RELz] Campfire 1.1 - New Perk System, Instincts (also, hi)

Post » Sat Sep 12, 2015 10:00 pm

Hi everyone,

I'll admit that I've been avoiding these forums for quite some time. It was only a few months ago that a lot of events transpired; in certain circles it seemed confirmed that I was, indeed, the Great Satan himself, harbinger of the destruction of my own hobby. I made a number of mistakes, which I apologized for. I took some time off. I still think about what happened a lot. So I guess I haven't had the heart to look at what I might find here until recently. Looking through some past threads I've found a lot of very supportive messages (many of which made their way to me via PMs). I really cannot convey how important those messages were at the time, I was at pretty much at mental rock bottom for while there. From one actual human being to another, I sincerely appreciate everyone that supported me as a person even if you didn't support me as a modder at that time.

What a strange year.

Anyway, enough about that. I'm trying to get back to basics, and these are the boards that made me want to make mods in the first place, so, here I am. I'd like to spend time becoming more active here again.

With that out of the way, please enjoy my latest.

New features:

Campfire Perk System http://gfycat.com/CaringBelovedCottontail - A new, stand-alone perk system that can be accessed from any lit campfire. You can earn Camping skill perks by building campfires. Earn perks that help you build campfires in any weather conditions, more resources when harvesting wood, enhance your Instincts ability, and more. Frostfall 3.0 and Last Seed will also add their own perk trees into this system, giving the player a new survival-centric advancement path. http://skyrimsurvival.com/home/campfire/campfire-perk-system/ for more information.

Instincts http://gfycat.com/SlimyIdealisticBighornedsheep - A new ability that feels like a cross between Detect Life and Witcher Sense. With this power, you can easily see items in the environment that can be used as tinder for your campfires. You can pinpoint the sounds creatures make; if they are moving, talking, or using something loud, they will become visible. (Fun side-effect, you can even tell http://gfycat.com/AssuredFastGyrfalcon). At a distance, creatures that are still and quiet will be invisible to this ability. Finally, you can http://gfycat.com/OffbeatCleverChimneyswift (including the undead).

This ability can only be used outdoors, and movement cancels the effect (unless you take the Keen Senses perk, which allows movement while sneaking). It also has a relatively short range (100ft without perks, 200ft with). I wanted to pack a lot of functionality into a single button press, but not put Detect Life out of a job. I hope I struck the right balance with something intended to help you feel like a badass ranger with super hearing and sense of smell.

Settings Profiles - If using SkyUI and SKSE (1.7.3+), all of your Campfire settings are saved automatically to a Profile. Your profile is persistent across saves, loads, characters, and new games. All of your settings are loaded for you automatically from your last used Profile when you start the game. My goal was to have you spend less time configuring a mod and more time enjoying the game. There are 10 different Profile slots to switch between, and you can rename them to your preference. (This feature can be disabled.)

Revamped campfire building mechanics - The experience is now faster and more guided. Tinder now plays a large role in whether or not you will successfully light your campfire; different tinder provide different chances of success. It is also much harder to light a campfire in adverse weather. (Example: Canis Root has a 55% chance of success in clear weather, but only 25% in bad weather.) Your chance of success can be improved with the Firecraft perk. I think this mechanic will add some excitement to building much-needed fires in driving rain and snowstorms in Frostfall 3.0, and rewards coming prepared with high-quality tinder in your pack. See http://skyrimsurvival.com/home/campfire/building-campfires/ for more information on campfires.

Even better performance - ThreeTen guided me through a change that greatly improved the speed of certain tent functions, which will help performance not only in Campfire but Frostfall as well. Campfire continues to have no always-on background scripts, however some do run only when using things like the Instincts ability. Thanks, ThreeTen!

Lots o' bugs fixed - As always.

What's Next - Campfire 1.1 has everything in it that Frostfall 3.0 should need. I am now neck-deep in Frostfall code and making that my top priority. I anticipate things coming together fairly quickly; there are no completely new mechanics coming that I don't already know how to build, and adding a new perk tree into Campfire's system is a snap. It's just a matter of dividing and conquering.

Please enjoy the mod! It has already been very well tested by some generous folks on the Nexus, so I feel pretty great about the quality. Still, if you find anything, please let me know. Cheers!

The perk tree you created is really neat. Both because it's compatible with other mods that overhaul perks (I use Requiem myself) and because the perks are well designed. Once again, you have created something special.

Thanks all!

Working on Frostfall's perks now. Which is a lot more fun than making the perk system work in the first place  Always open to suggestions if anyone has any.

One small 'idea' that you might consider; not something I'd say Frostfall "needs" as it seems perfectly satisfactory to me right now, but just an idea.

Seems that running or jumping should have some small benefit to warmth. I can imagine that might be a bear to code, but an idea.

Is really great so see you back cheskoman!

Cheers to all your mods!

Even the Wearable Lantern that I love so much!!

Regarding perks I think something like being inebriated would make you fell less cold for longer.

But if you stay sober too long you feel even colder.

Also not sure how you are planing Last Seed but any chance of a sanity meter?

Like the need of some quality time now and them?

You could add actions that add stress and actions that reduce it :D
