Can anyone explain why I get 203 bounty walking past guard t

I am doing the Killing Fields and every time I load up the game, following the brothers, we walk past the guard tower and I get the message Bounty 203/500 when I had zero bounty.

I tested it by swinging wide right, got no bounty, then swung closer to the tower and immediately got bounty.


edit...well hell I went around the spot, no bounty, then walking down the road I got it again out of nowhere.

double edit...and it vanished just like it appeared as I walk down the road.

It happened in Skingrad before the main gate for me in my old game. With my new character I have not yet ran across it. I never did figure out why it happened - and it happened without fail everytime I visited Skingrad.

For me it never helped if I paid the fines, hit a guard to resolve it, console away the bounty.

I got a few mods that play with bounty but that doesn't necessarily mean one of those are the cause - just likely :(

---> So try disabling one mod at the time that affect bounty in some way.

Obviously it is location-based. This is my first time this far out from IC. I never experienced it before.
The only bounty things I have are SM Bounty, Clothing Matters (but I'm not wearing "illegal" outfits)...can't think of anything else right now.

Both this and the psycic merchants are probably caused by T.I.E.
Check the ReadMe and/or ask in the new T.I.E. thread.

well yeah...thing is TIE has such limited info in the webpage /readme. Simple enough I searched for the player.setcrimegold to 0 to fix it. I may be a thief but I don't stand for
bounties being placed on me for no reason.

Just throwing this out there.

Mods that have "regional" etc crime system modify the crime gold you SHOULD have on and off. This is because if you have crime gold, any guard you come up with mysteriously knows you committed a crime miles away and tries to arrest you.

So many mods set it to 0, until you come close to an area where they SHOULD know you committed a crime, and thus they SHOULD try to arrest you.


I don′t know if this is such case, but maybe you were seen committing a crime in Chorrol, and thus when you come into the area/close enough a guard somewhere there, some of your mods re-applies the appropriate crime gold, cause you are wanted in there?

It happened again this time when crossing near the tree that is in front of the stables.
This time I get an automatic 60 bounty which I have to clear yet again with the player.setcrimegold command.
I haven't committed any crimes out here. I had SM Bounty before where it had these 100% confirmed locations that set a bounty on you just for walking in these areas.
I switched back to RGO and they do it still.

As I said before, it's probably caused by TIE, not RGO or SM Bounty.
Things like this is one of the reaons I don't use TIE.

TIE doesn't display messages about your bounty on screen. So far as I know, it doesn't even mess with it in a regional way. You will know if you've violated a restricted area in TIE because the NPCs will give you verbal warnings when you're doing it, and if you ignore it, the nearby guards will try to arrest you without any hesitation.

Blaming TIE for something it might not be responsible for is a huge kneejerk reaction.

I said it's probably, not certainly, TIE.
I know TIE like to give bounty for certain actions and there are other mods that give a message if your bounty gives up. So it's possible that TIE does give the bounty but another mod pops up the message.

As you probably know, I use all UL mods. Going down the road from the priory, you reach an opening with a guard tower. If you swing wide away from it you can avoid the spot
there that gives the bounty. If you continue down the road towards the Killing Fields farm there is another spot that gives it. There are also a couple spots along this path that also remove it. Sometimes the bounty message will just show up saying Bounty: 0, for no reason (?) at all. Perhaps these spots that remove bounty are what trigger that message.

So in addition to those parts on that path, I found a small spot next to the tree as I was walking out the south gate, in front of the cart and tree as I walked to the stables. That one gives me 60 bounty, which as I understand, screws with my infamy just by giving bounty. I had to change my infamy in the console recently because of this.

I've given you a possible explanation.
Why not try it and see if it's correct? Deactivate TIE, rebuild your Bashed Patach and see if you still get the messages.
If you do you know which mod is the culprit. If you don't get the messages then we can at least eliminate TIE.

ugh that means another console command retrieval of the woodland bow, and waiting again on the Frans spawns I assume (Tie n Frans).


Why? No need of that for just a test run.

I scanned through TIE with a text editor, looking for the word bounty. None of the scripts send messages to the screen for bounty manipulation, and the only ones doing anything with it at all involve some kind of contaier. There are no trespass triggers outside in the wilderness, so whatever is sending that message as you pass through the southern watchtower from the UL isn't coming from TIE.

I found more spots.

This time simply walking along the top of the wall/walkway north of UL Chorrol where the guard towers are before the wilderness will give +60 or no bounty.

There is another spot over the wall up a hill that does the same thing.

I don't understand what the OP thinks keeping posting about these messages will accomplish?
Sometimes you have to make an effort yourself. You can do like Arthmoor did and do a text search for the messages or you can do the old and tried method of disabling some of your mods, do a test run and rince and repeat untill you have nailed the mod that modifies your bounty. Or check in TES4EDIT which mods adds stuff in these cells.

I think many people here assume people that play Oblivion are also modders, know how to use every single tool created for the game, and have the knowledge to come up with solutions on how to find things (text search, edit, etc).

If you are going to play with hundreds of mods you need to learn those things. If not you'll just have to accept that your game will turn into a bug ridden crash fest.
Besides text searches and temporarily disabling half your mod list is hardly rocket science. :shrug:

These types of things are probably vanilla bugs. Before I got the PC version I played some on the Xbox and got several such bugs including: getting a bounty because I defended myself from THAT guard (Yes I only attacked him after he attacked me, I even let the city guard kill him and still got a bounty) even LOOKING at the trentius mausoleum. And of course the famous "hit my horse" bug. Thank the nine for modding tools. *rolls d20 on sneak check*

I can confirm this as well. I run by Fort Haven and get a bounty, even though the guards in Skingrad are fine with me.

I can definitely tell it's location based just from that.

May be because I just stole a horse before I got to Skingrad, so it set up a sort of "search radius" or something that when I enter it, my bounty comes back. Not sure on this though. I'll have to go beyond Fort Haven to see if wandering guards try to take me in when I talk to them.

I thought regional bounty is a feature of SMRegionalBounty (why should Skingrad guards know you slapped someone in Chorrol and are on the run there?), and IIR, RGO also has this feature. Do you have these mods causing this toggling?

I've had similar issues with older versions of RGO (shooting arrows at creatures caused bounty to go up) - stopped using RGO, so don't know if this has been cured in the next releases of RGO (I believe there have been 2-3 updates since).

I used to use SM Regional Bounty, but I ditched it because I thought it was having conflicts with the way T.I.E. handles bounties. I really don't know how T.I.E.'s system works, all I know is that you can run away with even a large bounty and not have people a world away know that you did something illegal. It seems to work like a stripped down version of SM Regional Bounty.

Anyways, this doesn't bother me all that much. Just need to stay away from the [censored]s of Fort Haven.

I listed my LO previously. It isn't a bounty mod since I already mentioned previously that I have tried with both.
It is 100% location-based. I know exactly where to walk to get a 203 or 60 bounty added, then continue through another location to get it removed.

I am not saying that I don't know about removing mods and adding them for testing. I am saying that YES it is rocket science to KNOW what to do when you don't know about it (text searches, using advanced CS, tes4edit other than taking an ID and seeing what mods are involved with it...).

I bought this game since 1. it was Steam deal $8 cheap. 2. Heard about it for years and people talking about ..."Ohhh just install this pack and that mod and it makes the game better!" Little did I know I had to practically learn modding to enjoy a better than released game.
