I can't believe they didn't think of this!

First want to say I really am loving this game. I loved morrowind, kinda hated oblivion. Glad to see that Skyrim exceeded my expectations. Now on to the main point. I can't believe they didn't let you ride a dragon. You would think with all the emphasis on the dragons they would let you ride you one. Wouldn't it be cool if you could tame dragons? Have a super rare one to tame, with the few common semi rare ones. Maybe there could be battles in the sky? Who knows, the possibilities are endless, hopefully there will be dlc for this.

They did, decided it was stupid, and cut the paycheck of the guy who suggested it for being an idiot.

They probably did, but realized how impractical it would be. The world isn't so large you would need to fly around to travel quickly (besides you can already fast travel.)

It's not quite Just Cause 2 if you know what I mean :P

So elegantly put, with fine supporting details for your argument! :P

I just don't see that as being any more then a glorified, airborne mount. Battles would amount to nothing more then just telling your dragon to shoot fire at the other as you yourself probably couldn't do much. I suppose you could shoot arrows?

*I* can't believe they thought it was OK to make dragons the most lame-ass, stupid, easy to beat "epic" bosses ever to grace a video game.

Guys, I'm just tossing ideas around, don't think of it as I'm declaring it must happen. I just think of how nice it would be to try and capture the rare dragons, then hop onto one and look at a beautiful Skyrim from above.

You can though! I figured out how to the day it came out. Go up to the throat of the world
Spoiler
if you talked to paartharuax already then he will be sitting on the little thing where you get a word of power. Climb on top of his back on the highest possible spot and then hit him a few times and he will turn hostile and fly up really high and sometimes you can ride him for like 7 seconds
your welcome.

You don't tame the dragons, they're a sentient race.

Some elements simply risk the game's originality being damaged. Horse combat for example, had been discussed by Bethesda pre-release, they simply decided not to.

The Dragons are the most powerful species in Tamriel, the very purpose of their existance is to dominate. They're never going to allow themselves to be used as mounts.

^This.

The dragon would fight with everything it had to rid itself of you if you tried saddling it and claiming it were your pet. That would be like a midget trying to 'tame' you and make you its mount.

considering beth has yet to implement horses in any useful fashion, i cant imagine how badly they would implement flying mounts.

Anyone who's played Warcraft should know what I'm talking about here. Allowing the player to fly trivializes terrain and makes the environment feel much smaller, and the perspective it grants ruins all sense of wonder and discovery it would normally provide because you can just look down and see pretty much everything,
Navigating a dense forest to find a cave some bandits are hiding out in, for example, means nothing when you can just fly over the trees, see exactly where the cave is, and land next to it.

wild horses are the same until their spirit is broken n they're tame...a rideable dragon sounds like a respectable mount for a dragonborn, who better then a dragonborn to tame a dragon? he speaks some dragon so all he has to do is shout dragon, whoaa! ;)
