Can a breton be rubbish at magic? (LoreRP question)

Post » Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:25 pm

I was unsure where to post this either in general skyrim section, lore section or here since it has a story I decided to post it here.

Ok I have done spellsword/mages and I have done assassin characters but I never did warrior characters plus I have played with all the races apart from breton so I decided to do a breton warrior! The problem is lore wise are bretons even warriors and are there bretons that can only muster basic spells? Here is the background for my character if it helps people to gain a better understanding ok this is my first written background for a character bear with me here apologies for the grammer/spelling!

Mira Helbrecht

She comes from a noble elite family that is known for their high aptitude in magic problem the only problem is she can only do basic spells so her parents deem her a failure a black mark on their family and then focused on their other children.(Since I gather that high rock is known for political backstabbing and such and noble elite expect a lot from their children).

So she packed her bags and began her travel to winterhold to some how improve her skills in magic or find out why she can't do magic like her family but disater struck(using alternative start) the carriage she was riding was attacked by bandits. She was then robbed beaten and abused. (I will let you use your imagination)

She hated herself for her weakness and cursed her attackers as they left her for dead she wandered aimlessly until she met a vigilant of stendarr he helped out and when she asked where he was going he said "Markath to investigate deadra cultists". (You can see where I am going with this  oh and I am just injecting some of my back story I know you don't met the npc on the outskirts)

Of course before her parents disowned her she studied about the evil deeds the deadra have committed and since he helped her she decided to help him with his investigation until molag bal grabbed a hold of both of them and told them to kill each other of course the vigilant broke down and tried to kill her. She grabbed one of the blades on the table and stabbed him in the neck.

She meets bal(the voice) at the altar and he traps her and spells out his task for her but of course she refuses since why would a deadra lord want someone who cannot even muster a basic flame spell. Then bal says she is weak and pathatic all she does is run from her problems like the small weakling she is.

Of course as she is walking out of the house she began to feel more angry and furious since he was right she looked at the dead vigilant and pulled the sword from his throat and set out to do the deadra lord task and once she had Logrolf with in the trap. Bal told her to crush his bones and she did and enjoyed every part of it having power over another finally being in control then she became his champion.

She then decided she would scrap the magic and become a master of arms the first thing she set out to do is crush the bandits who attacked her and she did even if some begged for mercy she broke them completely and enjoyed every moment.

Sorry for the rather long story but thats it I know its not great its my first time soo... could this character work? She will become a vampire at some point since more power is always good and carrying some of the two handed weapons would be easier for her. I am planning to use this mod for this character its a weapon. I am wondering what birth sign to pick for her.

Plus fura bloodmouth(dawnguard vampire npc two handed master weapon trainer) would be one of her trainers to get to grips with combat.

Bretons are like any other race. Some are more capable at learning magic than others. Some Bretons have absolutely no Talent for it. Its all about the individual. Much like say Khajiit. Natural thieves but they aren't ALL thieves.

First off, your character is YOUR character. They're who YOU want them to be. I have multiple Bretic characters in the RP I'm hosting and I don't think a single one of them uses magick, though in the series the RP is in magick is rarer and much more powerful than in Bethesda cannon.

The best thing about roleplaying is you decide everything, so if you wanted an Argonian who could oust the Imperial Battlemage in a duel of magick go for it or a Bosmer that could wield a hammer better than a Nord. It's all up to you.

My second Skyrim character was a Breton warrior with no magical ability what-so-ever. They were, however, a scholar so in terms of characterization they probably weren't too far afield, although I'll note that Daggerfall was full of Bretons who didn't care about magic.
