Can't bring myself to pick any race apart from the Nord...

Post » Mon Dec 19, 2011 8:44 am

For me, Bethesda killed the reply value of this game with regards to numerous DIFFERENT playthroughs with the various races and class types. I just can’t bring myself to pick anyone apart from the Nord. At the moment, my character looks like the guy from the “Live Action Trailer” and the stylized posters of the “Dragon Born”. He is wearing the iron helmet and studded armour with the Skyforge steel sword....and I’m level 24!!!! I should be wearing my Ebony cuirass but it just doesn’t feel/look right. Because of those adverts and promotional trailers I just cannot imagine the Dragon Born/Dovahkiin to be a tall High Elf or a skinny female Imperial or an old & small Wood Elf.....God Dammit Bethesda...Damn you and your epic adverts/trailers! Anyone else feel the same...I doubt it haha : )

Haha I have to admit I have played Nord more than anything else. Probably about 70 %.

I like to play as a visitor so I'm a Breton, and It fits because I'm from the outside looking in at Skyrim's world.

I play an Argonian, never even considered playing as a Nord (it was either Argonian, Kahjiit or Bosmer)

I first picked Nord, but after I got into the "dragonborn" story I couldn't see my guy breathing fire or ice.... so I switched to Argonian. Then "dragonborn" started to make sense.

it is the most RP friendly choice because its the only race where it makes sense no one ever cares. if your a khajiit or argonian or elf or imperial, some of the dialogue can seem really jarring, but if your a nord then it sounds just fine when they go on about how the dark elves are lazy good for nothings right in front of you or tell you about the khajiit caravans.

I've played as a Khajiit and a Breton more then a Nord.

My best characters have always been a Breton since morrowind.

I think it's not that the Nord race is better than the other races or something, but it's just that they gave this weird alien feeling whenever you play another race.

No, that's way too generic for me.

I've always played a warrior nord in TES games, so I'm ok with It. I made other chars to complete all the guilds, though.

Nord just to do the MQ, I find Nords boring, Hulk smash. Bosmer all the way, and I did a Breton Mage also.

It's your choice what you play. I'm actually less enthusiastic to play a Nord even though I had a few in Oblivion. Already far too many Nords in this game, I wanted to play something different so I'm saving my Nord MQ playthrough for later.

While not quite "can't bring myself", I understand what you mean. I mean, I do play a Nord myself, but he isn't really like the trailer Nord. In fact, he might be more Nord, since he's "fair haired". haha.. Where he's not a Nord is that he's somewhat of a spellsword, jack of all trades, not a straight up warrior (but mostly a warrior).

I'd probably play a Breton or Redguard (seems neutral enough for the story, unlike imperials or high elves), but I can't seem to make a decent looking Breton. It's not really that worse than Nord (which are ugly in their own right), but Bretons have some weird babyface features I can't get over. Redguards look badass (best looking race imo), and I might get around to it for a next playthrough. I could see them fit into the story in a way.. they make good outsiders for a Stormcloak playthrough, for the fact that Hammerfall has fought off the Thalmor themselves without Imperial help.

?

not whatsoever...

Dovahkin isn't automatically some barbaric warrior like they presented in the trailers... they just presented 1 vision of it.

Dovahkin is who you make him or her to be. Write your own story. They only used a Nord for the trailers because it's in Skyrim and he fits with the locale...

But have you never read Fantasy? Adventurers are just as commonly outsiders, who even face biggotry against them, who still "Save the day"...

Some are truly righteous and some are sinister. Some only save the world for personal ends.

So really... you can be anything... easily.

I've always played as "The Nord witht he Sword".

However the Dragonborn Septims were Imperials. Not Nords.

It's not the game that's stopping you replaying.

You are placing un-necessary limits on yourself.

Same.
Now this is my first TES game so I think I will grow to Nords on every TES game to follow. Any other races feel weird to me.

Usually Altmer or Imperial ever since Daggerfall. Mostly Altmer...what can I say? I'm a mage-junkie!

My main character is a Nord because, like you, i saw those awesome trailer and thought "I want to be just like that!!!". So i did. But my next character, only level 3 or so, is a high elf. So, it didnt effect me as much, but it did make me choose a Nord, just cause they are really cool.

Not necessarily.. Tiber Septim - Talos himself - was a Nord, as were the Septims directly in his bloodline. The Empire was founded by a conquering Nord.

Which is why my Nord has no qualms siding with Imperials myself.
