Can I change the save game directory?

Post » Sun Aug 28, 2011 8:52 pm

2 days ago my main hard drive stopped functioning and I had to get a replacement from the manufacturer. I've had to reinstall Oblivion (it's on a secondary drive, but I think the registry data was lost. Luckily I can just transfer my data file over though).

I've lost my save games though. They were saved under my documents on the hard drive that failed. I'm wondering if I can change the directory of where the files are saved. I have a very reliable external hard drive which I feel is more stable.

Thanks!

I think you can move the entire "my documents" folder, but, that has been rumored to cause some other issues as well. Aside from that, there is an entry in the oblivion.ini for save path: SLocalSavePath=Saves\... but, I think that assumes the my documents folder.... you might be able to 'trick' the game, and set it up so it refers to a folder that is mapped somewhere else.

I recently installed a new hard drive and in the process re-named my drive letters. When Oblivion couldn't find the old E:\My Games Oblivion\Saves it created a new C:\My Games\Oblivion\Saves on its own the next time I started Oblivion. The new drive letter location appears to work fine.
