Can I climb the mountains in the east and look across..

I'm wondering if we can climb the mountains in the east and look across the border into Morrowind?

And likewise, with all the other bordering provinces?

I'd imagine that there isn't much to look at... unless you like steaming craters

I do hope there aren't any more invisible walls, it's one of most immersion-breaking aspects of Oblivion, right when you tried to walk out the province a voice out of nowhere would appear.....

Voice:Hey...You!

Player:Me?

Voice:Yeah, you.

Player:What?

Voice:You cannot go that way, turn back.

Player:Why?

Voice:Because I said so that's why.

Player:You svck.

I'm not saying that they should put content in all of the provinces, no they should still be nothing but land and trees but I still don't want a voice and an invisible wall telling me where I can't go especially in an open-world game.

How else would they do it besides an invisible wall?

A wooden rickety fence around the whole border? hehe

Alduin's already eaten the rest of the world. You cannot go that way.

As for crossing the boarders, I think there should be armed guard towers that shoot anything coming or going between provinces, Skyrim is in the middle of a civil war over sovreignty, they probly don't want the Imperialists going to try and get help and then people can stop crying about invisible walls

This again. I don't want to get into a huge debate again, so I'll just reiterate my stance that invidible walls are the only way to do borders that aren't extremely contrived and irritating and a waste of dev effort. It's as unintrusive as you can get. You already know the game is limited to Skyrim, no need for some ridiculous land formation/enemy/infinite fog to tell you.

That would really only be Vvardenfell.

Realistically it'd be a pretty big chunk of the mainland too, if not most of the southwestern section at the very least, Vivec was along the coast of Vvardenfel and according to the maps Vvardenfel itself wasn't very far from the mainland

Maybe you could, but I doubt you'd see much, you could see into parts of other provinces in Oblivion too, but it would just be trees, rocks and other generic terrain features, I wouldn't be surprised if Skyrim is about the same in this regard.

I'm not saying that they should put content in all of the provinces, no they should still be nothing but land and trees but I still don't want a voice and an invisible wall telling me where I can't go especially in an open-world game.

So you'd rather explore said place populated by only land and trees and find what's supposed to be a densly populated province is actually an empty wilderness without a single interesting thing to see and eventually just drops into an endless void or whatever it is that happens once you reach the end of the terrain Bethesda modeled? I for one would find that MUCH more "immersion" breaking than invisible barriers I'll only notice 0.000000001% of the time I spend playing the game (Seeing as I'm not usually in the habit of trying to leave the province when I know the game doesn't allow it. Why would I want to anyway if there isn't a single interesting thinmg to see or do there?) not to mention it might lead to me wasting my time as without checking the map, I might not realize I'm leaving the province and could wander for an extended period of time even though doing so is entirely pointless. Now, usually wandering is fine in an open world game, but only when there's actually a chance that something worthwhile can come of it, wandering outside the game's borders, if it were possible, would be utterly pointless as there would be nothing to see or do out there.

I'm perfectly, 100% fine with invisible barriers as long as they're kept only on the borders of the map (Now using invisible barriers to keep me from using any paths to get to a place other than the one intended as in New Vegas, on the other hand, is a big no, if you want to force me down a linear path in your open world game, then at least do it with barriers I could actually believe would prevent me from going off the intended path.). Of course, if Bethesda can come up with a better way, that's fine with me too, but there's not exactly that much they can do, they can't do an endless ocean like Morrowind as it's not an island, and surrounding the entire province with impassable mountains tends to look artificial, like some god put those mountains there merely to keep people from leaving and entering the province, and makes one wonder how it was ever possible for anyone to enter or leave in the first place.

oooo, better yet, mostly impassible mountains with a few heavily guarded passes, some not instantly hostile, perhaps guarded by different factions and such for variety, but they would still bar you from passing regardless.

The only logical border would be unscalable mountain ranges and overly dense forests...invisible walls take away from realism. I think that's how it will be, I came across this map in another thread and it shows mountains around every area that is not near the ocean :

Infact, why shouldn't the different faction territories be heavily patrolled, there is a civil war going on afterall. Depending on who you choose to do quests for, I'd imagine that this would gain you some negative notoriety with the other groups and they probly wouldn't be too keen on you poking around there towns and garrisons... unless they're trying to get you to defect to their side of course. But I also imagine that even if they were trying to gain your favor, they probly wouldn't be too trusting if you hadn't proved your loyalty yet.

Like Ghostpaw suggested, I think it'd be nice if there were guards who stopped you at the border.

Player: (walks past checkpoint)

Guards in tower: Hey! You! Halt!

Player: (carries on walking)

Guards: This border is guarded! Turn around, this is your final warning!

Player: (carries on walking, dies in a storm of arrows)

I think that's as good a way as any to avoid "invisible walls"...

Skyrim seems fairly mountainous. Impassable, steep, mountain borders?

Most likely. The border might be so long that they can't put guards or whatever all the way.

That's why I suggested a combination of high steep mountains with heavily guarded passes, I think it even makes sense from a lore/gameplay stand point because of the ingame events.
