Can't complete quest, stuck in The Mind of Madness, and cant

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 9:55 am

I currently have a 7 meg save game file, level 20 character, have applied the latest patch and have minor lag but more importantly, I am stuck in the "The Mind of Madness" quest and can't complete it. I have completed all three tasks for Sheogorath and when I talk to him and he says that I am free to go, NOTHING HAPPENS. The task arrow is still over his head and nothing happens no matter how many times I try and talk to him.

I have tried leaving the quest by fast traveling somewhere else but if I leave I have no inventory and cannot open inventory or use spells. The game still thinks that I am in the quest.

Prior to this quest I had noticed that NPC's would not react to me talking to them (try renting a room and they say ok but no money is exchanged and they don't actually give me a room) and when killing dragons, no souls are captured.

Please help as the game is completely unplayable unless I start over and get to the same point again, obviously not an option.

I'm sorry to hear you're stuck...I, too, have had issues related to NPCs. The patch did not seem to fix it. I ended up just starting my game over, which was frustrating at over 40 hours logged. I ended up getting stuck after I bought the house in Riften, but could not speak to the Jarl about becoming the Thane. I hope that this issue will be fixed, since it is gamebreaking for some of us.

Starting over seems like a very disappointing option. For all the hours that people spend playing this game and to barely even scratch the surface of the game and to run into game stopping bugs is just ridiculous! I write software for a living for a Health Care organization so I understand deadlines to deliver software and minor bugs occasionally being missed but to have a bug that prevents you from moving on so early in the game is completely unacceptable! Did Bethesda do "ANY" game testing before it was released? It seems almost impossible that they did any extent of testing with so many PS3 users having gamebreaking bugs on quests.

Just saw another Skyrim commercial, how ironic but maybe that's why they have live action commercials.

BETHESDA... please release an update or at least explain to people what your path forward is. Leaving customers who spend $60 on your products in the dark is not a good way of doing business. (i.e. I have submitted this problem through the website and have never heard anything back).

This was bugged for me as well. Keep talking to him and maybe hit him.

You may have already tried this (and I'm sorry if you have, but you didn't mention it in your post), but have you attempted to walk everywhere in the mind of madness, after you speak to him? I had to trek off under one of the stone 'arches' before I got zapped back to where I was supposed to be.

Good luck.

Well that didn't work. Now after the patch, I cant even shoot the wabbajack. No buttons other than punching work. Awesome! Time to start over I guess or trade the game in.

I really think Bethesda should recall the PS3 version. This just isn't right.

I just was walking through the Pelagius Wing of Blue Palace: stripped of all my gear and jumped to loading screen. Nothing else. Same loading screen for 20 minutes now. It's not frozen though, the loading animations are still going (smoke in background). It's just not proceeding. Time to power-cycle the PS3 I think...
