Can Console Commands conflict with Mods?

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 12:38 am

I'm going to start my first playthrough with Mods but need to know of any potential conflicts. I want to level efficiently, i.e. adding 5 points to two attributes and 1 to Luck each time I level but I can't be bothered with the grind, as it takes the enjoyment out of the game, so I simply wish to use the console each time I level to make up any points that might be lacking from a particular attribute that I increased. After I've hit the level cap I will also use the console to add 5 points to three attributes periodically, just to continue with the leveling process, I may also add points at some point to Health, Fatigue and Magica but getting back to my question are there any Mods or types of Mods that may conflict?

My current Mods:

UOP
USIP
UOMP
UOPS
Qarls Texture Pack 3
Enhanced Vegetation
Enhanced Weather
Weapon Expansion Pack
Quest Award Leveler (Supports BH Castle)
Dark UID
Mart's Monster Mod

Just get a leveling mod. Messing with attributes via the console isn't the best of ideas.

And yes, console commands can mess up mods in a big way. Altering stats using the console is generally a bad idea. Forcing doors to unlock when they're not supposed to can screw up quests. Resurrecting NPCs can throw off scripts that are checking to see if they're dead.

In short, using the console to fiddle with the game can have lots of unintended consequences and should only be used if absolutely necessary.

Thanks guys. I just installed Level Skills Faster, which is quite a basic leveling Mod. It makes all skills level at the same speed (a little slower than conjuration), when casting spells you get the same xp, even if not targeting and in alchemy there's no difference in the xp gained from eating and creating potions. There were more advanced Mods but they required OBSE, something I know nothing about.

Learn about it! OBSE is very easy to install and opens up all kinds of modding possibilities.

That's just the sort of thing I'm looking for, thank you. I'll uninstall the other leveling Mod, as I'm not particularly interested in leveling up faster but it was better than the alternative. I just read the description for the Mod, tell me can you still only place 1 point in Luck on leveling, as the description only mentions +5 points going to Attributes that have gained at least 1 point, since the last level up?

I probably will do in the future but for now, I'm getting along just fine, have 13 Mods installed so far and will start looking for some armour Mods soon. I must admit I was going to start installing Mods a couple of months ago but when I began reading about it I found it overwhelming, which put me right off. I only decided to make a concerted effort to install some Mods about 3 days ago. Personally I'm surprised I got this far as I'm very much a Technophobe.
