Can't drop quest item once the quest is done.

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:19 am

Recently I was in the mood for some re-decoration & took the Sapphire Claw which I had used in its dungeon a long time ago and which was subsequently just lying around my house.
However now I can't drop it or store as I get the message it's a quest item and can't be dropped. Is there any way for me drop it from my inventory?

You know what svcks:
Spoiler
Im dead serious. Enjoy the extra weight you have to carry.

P.S. Word of warning: Never ever ever ever ever pick up these items: Finn's Lute, Pantea's Flute, or Rjorn's Drum as they are also forever in your inventory even after the quest is done.

oh yes, if you do some math you will notice that all quest items weigh 0, even if they display a weight, beth learned this from oblivion.

but still its annoying to not being able to drop them, I hate having them in my inventory!

Yep you're right. I'm stuck with that lute myself and have been avoiding the bard quests ever since :D

Find the ID for the item. Google it, maybe. Then type this in the console command:

player.removeitem id_here 1

Does this drop it on the floor, or removes it from the game entirely?

Most quest items will display a weight but not actually take any up, back to topic, I've also obtained several quest journals that can't be dropped, it is pretty annoying. Also, just finish the left eye quest to get rid of it, you can sell or keep the right eye as a collectable.

Why display a weight when the darn thing doesn't weigh anything.... I wish my fat was a quest item (actually it's a quest to see how much McDonalds food I can consume come to think of it).

Remove it from the game. But Sapphire Claw is needed only once. Don't worry.

Ivory Claw, on the other hand, is needed until Forbidden Legend is finished. (If you don't know the quest, don't ask. It's a spoiler.)

Coral Claw is never a quest item. But don't sell it until you use it at Yngol Barrow.

also Galisus (sp?) journal stays perma in inventory.

The journal after visiting karliah and the mage in winterhold the journal neverleaves the inventory nor can drop it.

Also because the journal can not be removed (xbox 360) every time walk thru Calcelmo's museum the quest to get the falmer charcoal print quest restarts.

End result in every one of my 7 playthrus? Galisus journal perma stuck in my inventory and countless nightengale blades from the end of the quest.

I dont need countless nightengale blades, especially when i can not upgrade them at a grinding stone. And surely do not need that journal anymore.

Other quest is the stone of berinziah(sp?) the count on the stones is off in every playthru. Ive collected all 24 stones in every 7 playthrus and Vex does not recognize them. Game quest reads 25 stones collected, but in inventory i have 24.

bard quests i never do, avoid completely as well.

player.showinventory - to display inventory, PageUP and PageDown to scroll the list to find the item and number

player.drop item_id 1 drops the item on the ground.

Yeah, I was doing two unrelated quests and found a couple of those instruments in different chests, but this playthrough I knew better than to touch them because the quest breaks if you pick them up before being given it, and even if you do it in the right order the items are permanently stuck in your inventory. I guess it wouldn't matter but they are pretty heavy items.

Those stones are really annoying. I had collected a huge stack of them before realising the only way to ever dump them was to join a guild I hated and collect them all. They should have at least given them zero weight if that was the case. Its more like being trapped with cursed item otherwise.
