I'd love to see a map of Skyrim; just so long as it's not some drab brown thing that came with Oblivion. I want details, the feeling it was handdrawn, with little caves...Heck, just get Mike Wagner to make the map like he did for Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon and I'll be very happy :D

Indeed. Got both over my computer, and Cyrodiil was only a marginal help, compared to this of Morrowind.

Still needed it, though. I get confused over dangerous concept like "north" and "west".

*pokes* Why is Black Marsh taking Morrowind space ?

Because apparently Black Marsh invaded Morrowind in The Infernal City. Also, Vvardenfell is gone.

As long as a decent one comes packaged in with the game, I'm all set.

It's not completely gone, only the area around vivec, which is now a boiling ocean. The rest of it probably resembles the Ashlands now.

Vvardenfell isn't gone. It's just a wasteland now with a giant crater where vivec used to be.

I was just going off the picture he 'shoped. NO MORE SPOILERS! :P I haven't read it yet.

But seriously. That novel takes place about 40 years after Oblivion, Skyrim almost definitely takes place before it.

Personally I think Bethesda should release a map of all of the topography after the Infernal City, except in Skyrim. This way it can add to the excitement and anticipation for what we can expect on 11/11/11.

And also the Infernal City is canon. It originally came with something that said it bridged the gap between Oblivion and the next game. Of course, I imagine the next book will also fill in the gap, and quite possibly even change the landscape drastically. I recommend buying it (when it comes out) and Infernal City if you haven't.

I've never seen anything saying that it bridges the gap between Oblivion and Skyrim. And I don't think it will, because The Infernal City takes place "four decades after the Oblivion crisis" (From the back of The Infernal City), and the trailer seems to suggest that the Daedra will return from Oblivion and fight once more. This would suggest, at least to me, that Skyrim will immediately follow the events of Oblivion by as little as a few years.

And I preordered The Infernal City, I just haven't been able to read it yet, but I recall no piece of information saying that it will bridge the gap between the two games.

Maps are cool...the more, the merrier! Also, a side note, I hope there are lots of more detailed mining operations here in the Skyrim mountains.

Mine came with it, but personally I have no problem with it bridging the gap. As for the whole Daedra thing, I'm not tossing the theory, but it is speculation. I just highly doubt it because what would be the point of Oblivion then if the entire main quest revolves around the Daedra invasion from the realm of Oblivion and at the end
Spoiler
stopping it for it to just return in Skyrim?
Hopefully the next Gameinformer will lay to rest some of our speculation.

Edit: I've also heard that the Infernal City was confirmed to be canon on the blog.

Am I the only one who thought this was a early DLC/CoD reference when I first saw it?

The "bridge the gap" statement was posted on some website (it might have been amazon.com) in the book's review a short time before the book was released. The review was suspiciously pulled very soon after after it was posted, but not before some people (including some members of this forum) had seen it.

And what makes you so sure that Skyrim is going to take place before The Infernal City? I was assuming just the opposite.

The publisher's blurb for Infernal City went like this (get ready for a shock if you think Skyrim takes place a couple of years after Oblivion):

Spoiler
"A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

Thank you. I imagine the next novel will also help bridge the gap.

It should be noted that this has not been confirmed by Bethesda, only deemed suspicious activity by TESV speculators :ninja:

I'm going to reread http://www.imperial-library.info/content/daggerfall-real-barenziah since a lot of parts in that story take place in Skyrim. It'll be fun to finally visit the places that the once Dowager Queen of Morrowind grew up in, specifically Whiterun. :)
Oh, and yes, I'd like a cloth map actually, one that I could hang on my wall.

I hope it's nice and painterly like not-Oblivion's.

i really liked the aesthetic of Oblivion's map. i mean yeah it lacked the detail that Morrowind's map had, but so did the game itself.

i'd very much like a new map outlining the current political regions of Tamriel. i kind of hope Skyrim comes with not just a map of Skyrim but a detailed map of Tamriel as a whole, so we can really see how different it is from Arena/Daggerfall.

Seeing as the author of TIC was responsible for integrating the events of his novel into canon, and the publishers are presumably in the loop, I'd say they likely have the right figure. 200 years is a long time, eh? Lots of times for borders to change. I second the demand for new maps!
