Can we get an official release time?

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:55 pm

Ok Steam and http://www.ea.com/crysis-2 are giving me two different times for the game release. Even stranger is the fact that they are both well after midnight which is when I could walk into my local Walmart buy the game, go home, install it, and be well past level 5 and unlock the hologram decoy which are two of the bonuses for preordering well before I could according to the timers even play my preordered copy. That being said can one of you Crytek guys give us an official release time for digital versions. Here is a screenshot of both windows with the countdown timers and my local time all circled in red.

Was just thinking and realized that for preordering via steam what I am really getting from my limited edition is a unique dog tag, a unique weapon skin and a 10 hour handicap over everyone who walks into Walmart at midnight and buys the game then. So in summary I get 2 shiny things and the shaft in MP. Does that sound about right?

AgentX2006..have you called a Wal-Mart to verify that they would actually have the Copies at Midnight? I have mine preordered at Gamestop but since I had read on another thread that gamestop was not doing the Midnight lauch, I may cancel my preorder and just buy it at Wal-Mart.

Just called my local Walmart and they said that they should have it. I take that to mean they are supposed to but it hasn't come in on the trucks yet.

If they are doing a preload they are doing it late in teh game compared to other games that had this option. I have seen quite a few games have preload up to 2 weeks before release. We are at 3 days now. The servers are gonna have a fit when everyone goes to install it.

crytek really needs to have crisis (haha) talks to steam right now about pre-loading this game. I am already going to be 2 days behind as Australia is getting the game on the 24th so give me those 2 days to pre-load!

Apparently they don't feel the need to be active on the forums on the weekend 3 days before launch though. Guess they take their days off a seriously as most government employees.

Agent, the limited gives you level 5 and a hologram decoy attachment both of which can be unlock in under 30-40min (3 matches) the only benefit I see of it is that you get a digital SCAR and shiny dog tags that people will get off you when stealth killing

If you're planning on buying from Steam, go off the time that Steam states it will be released.
If you're buying from EA store, go off the time that EA store states it will be released.

You must allow for timezone differences and locales which could explain the difference in time.

Yeah but 10:00 AM seems an odd time.

Adam, so.. basically what you're saying is Steam prepurchase players are getting it 10 hours~ later than anyone else?

What happened to the "day head start" for preordering?

I don't think it's a process that gets done for demos at all and is a process that only gets done very rarely for retail launches. Don't expect pre-loading of a demo on Steam to happen, sorry :)

So I take it we don't get a preload either and have to download the whole damn game 10 hours after everyone else has started playing too huh. As far as the very rarely part I think every highly anticipated game (and some that weren't) that was released on steam (Crysis 2 Definitely falls into the former category) for the past year at least has had a preload done for it. It's not a rare occurrence as you would have us believe. For the most part the games that didn't have a preload (where one was expected) were still being worked on right up to launch day to meet a deadline released buggy and needed multiple day 1 patches to be made playable. To be honest because of the lack of straight answers given on the forum on issues like DX11, Steam preload, etc. I am expecting a buggy release for Crysis 2. It seems like you guys are being told not to talk about certain things and teh only reason for that would be because they just aren't working the way they are supposed to yet ie. DX11.

Currently i don't know whether or not there will be a pre-load. My post you quoted is by no means a definitive answer on whether or not Crysis 2 will be available for pre-load. If i can get an answer on this then i will post the info :)

FWIW: I have 98 games on my Steam account and i've rarely experienced pre-loading options. My post was anecdotal.

Ok what about the 10:00 am unlock time on steam doesn't everyone else get it at midnight? I mean if I walked into Walmart and bought the game at 12:01 AM on the 22nd I would be able to install and play the game but not my copy I preordered from steam. What's up with that?

Ok well considering the 3000+ games on Steam a small percentage have had preload. But if you count only the Big Ticket, offering preorder bonuses, blockbuster, cream of the crop games like Crysis 2 almost all of them have had preload.
