Can't get past launcher : Fallout: New Vegas

Hello,

I bought the game off Steam today and downloaded it while I was out. I've just come to play it, and after installing DX updates and what not, the launcher loads up and detects my hardware settings and gives me a default video options of normal. Standard.

I then click play, the launcher disappears, then a few seconds later, the launcher just pops back up, and does another hardware detection. I can do this until the cows come home and get the same result.

I had the EXACT same problem with FO3 on this laptop (it worked 'perfectly' fine on my PC) and it's not as though my laptop lacks power.

I've hunted on the internet and even searched on this forum (to absolutely no avail) so I thought I'd better post.

Just in case personal expectations meant any differences in how you treated the configuration options in the launcher, a sort of warning on that.

The mobile versions of video graphics cards tend to start from 10% slower than the same named desktop card, and fall off from there, depending on the various producers, and the desktop HD 4570 was a borderline video card two years ago, about when Fallout 3 came out. By "borderline", I am saying that it was definitely *NOT* in the Mainline Medium class with the HD 4650, 4670, and 4770 cards. It was at the upper end of business card class, near the bottom of where Medium begins. As such, it should be able to handle either Low Image quality and a "Low-Medium" screen resolution, or Medium image quality at VERY Low screen resolution.

So: am I all wet about whether you were overestimating the little thing, and trying to run this game at too hioh of a resolution or not? Something like that could potentially cause a graphics crash at that point where you have been seeing it.

P. S. The feeble minded clowns running the SR Labs web site are wrong so often that they are a laughing stock, and the only use for their service isn't to pay attention to their inaccurate results.

hey man, this is a guy that talks out of his butt, its true thats not the best card for this game. BUT he said my comp couldn't even run new vegas, and with the dll fix i am sporting the game at high settings. While i can't say for sure if you can run the game on high or ultra settings, I can tell you to not take anything gorath says into account.

I'm more than sure the game will run, even it is on low settings, I'm not a graphics [censored]. I can play F1 2010 with decent settings, it'll be fine.

But still, performance is /NOT/ my problem. I can't even get the goddamned game to start.

Update:

I have managed to get the game to load! For reference, here are all the steps I took, who knows which one got it to work?

Closed Xfire
Verified game files (In Steam, right click > properties > local files > verify)
Set both .exes to run in XP SP2 compatibility
Enabled multithreading using:

= ENABLE MULTITHREADING =1. Open FalloutPrefs.ini file located in 'Documents\My Games\FalloutNV'2. Change bUseThreadedAI=0 to bUseThreadedAI=13. Add iNumHWThreads=2 below it4. Save

Applied the DX9 .dll fix

Let's see what this game is like then!

I started a topic on Saturday for the same thing.

I finally got the game to load and have been playing for about 5 hours without an error.

Back in the days of Win 95 & 98 games that were repeated installed did not always remove everything when it was uninstalled. This got me thinking that this is a registry issue.

I uninstalled NV and restarted the PC.

I then opened Regedit and exported a backup of the registry.

I then did a full registry search for Bethesda and removed all instances. I then did the same for NV. I did find 6 references of the NV launcher.

I restarted and then installed the game from the disc.

The game started straight away running at Ultra high.

I have not had to apply any of the work around for any of the numerous bugs that have so far been reported.

Hope this may help with your launcher problem

Yup having same issue. Tried ALL of those things and nothing is working. I'm about to do a [censored] complete reinstall of Windows...I really don't want to do that.
