can't get spells or magic spells to work

Post » Wed Nov 06, 2013 10:26 pm

haven.t played this game in a few years. I am level 5 and I can't seem to get any spells or magic to work. Down on the bottom left of the screen there are two boxes side by side. the first box shows the weapon I am using and the second box shows the magic or spell in use. I mostly use the amulet of mighty blows. I think you highlight the spell and it goes to the second box and when you use it ,,I think you use the right or left trigger nothing is happening?? The adrenaline rush did work once.

You first have to be in 'ready magic' position. Its 'R' in vanilla morrowind if my memory serves right, I usually change it to something else, so check for it in options. Then use left mouse button to cast it.

If you are using Code Patch, spells can be cast in any position, even when weapon is drawn.

In 'ready magic' position, your hands are streched in front of you ready to cast spells.

"Vanilla" means the basic unmodified game. If you're playing on console, then it's definitely "plain vanilla" (a reference to "unflavored" ice cream).

I don't know the controls for X-box (or any other console), but you need to choose a spell that you have sufficient magicka and skill to cast, then go into "ready" mode for spellcasting. At that point, you should be able to cast it. On the PC, it's the "r" key to "ready", but that doesn't help you on console.

Normally, if you look at your spell list in the menu, you should see a percentage chance to cast each spell, along with its magicka cost. If the percentage is "0", it's either because you don't have anywhere even close to the skill to cast it (casting a high-level spell as a novice) or don't have enough magicka.

Note that running and being fatigued will lower your odds of casting by a LOT, so if you're running everywhere, you could simply be too tired to cast.

it's been a while since I've played the console version, but if memory serves me correctly X Button will ready your weapon, Y Button will ready your magic (empty hands should go up). Then use right trigger to activate. I think you can also scroll through weapons and spells by holding their respective ready buttons down (X or Y) and hitting left or right trigger to move through the list.

also double tap the left anolog stick to stay in sneak mode... frustrated me to no end before I realized you could toggle it on and off instead of having to hold it the whole time
