I can't get the Khans to ally with the NCR

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:12 pm

I have a serious issue with this quest, firstly I'll say what I have done so far.

I have gained the support of Regis, The leader and Melissa, I also gained the support of Jack and Diane but that's where the problem lies.

I've only just realised though that when I ask them whether they will support the idea of backing the NCR they will say yes but the option is still there and it constantly repeats, I just did the Anders quest to see if that made any difference and it hasn't it still repeats. Before I could only repeatedly pass a speech check of 60 to get him to back the NCR but that was clearly bugged as well..

How am I meant to do this quest without killing them if I can't pass this part?

My problem may lie in the fact

● Before I realised this was repeating constantly today I had given the leader the book and he stated that he would back us and charge in like the Mongolians (something like that )

So how do I get past this without killing the Khans? It would be stupid to just let a potential ally become demolished

Help

i wonder if this is caused by patch 2. when i did that quest with patch 1, i had the option of asking them to join NCR before being told to go there. and doing so caused problems.

You need to kill Papa in order to ally Khans with NCR. As far as I know at least, as I've never done that.

Ugh.. I didn't want to kill Papa, I didn't mind him. I had him all persuaded to ally up.

Stupid buggy game, so there is no fix I'm guessing? Or could I unpatch, load this up, see if I can gain their support without it repeating, patch up again and then get on with business? :brokencomputer:

I didn't care for this story line either. I didn't want to kill Papa. My character isn't an assassin and Papa really likes me as do the other Khans. If there had been an option to make him attack you so you defend yourself, I could have taken that path but there wasn't. The quest is bugged anyway. I ticked off Karl and had Karl's journal. Papa got rid of Karl. I left and went back to hardhead Colonel Moore and told her the Khans wouldn't be a problem. The dialogue goes on about how the Khans were destroyed even though they were still in Red Rock Canyon. Other NPCs comment that way so it's goofy. I wondered how the endscenes would describe it but the endscene was good. It didn't say they were destroyed. I don't want to tell too much. You might try that. I think you'll be ok with it even though there isn't an alliance. :) I would have liked to have seen them fight the Legion though.

Really I did this quest without killing anyone and had no problems.

However as there are a few ways to do it maybe I just got lucky.

Kahn's ally with NCR? Best I have been able to do is get them to NOT back the legion. Didn't have to kill anyone either.

Ally with NCR=Kill Papa Khan, period that's how the quest works. Just because you didn't take that path doesn't mean the game is bugged, near as I can tell this is all on your head.
There are three ways to pass the quest for the NCR
1#: Ally them with the NCR,
2#: Destroy them
3#: Simply convince them to break the alliance with Caesar.

And only one of those paths ends well for the Khans

I've gotten them to ally with the NCR without killing Papa Khan, and there are two ways to do so:

After you convince his four lieutenants to break with the Legion, you need to out Karl to Papa Khan by showing him Karl's journal (which is easily swiped from his footlocker while they are eating). At this point you will have several dialogue options, two of which are 75 Speech. The first one has them leave the area when the battle for the dam breaks out, while the second one allies them with the NCR and has a group of them kamikaze against the Legion hordes.

If you do not have sufficient Speech skill, there is also an option to get a history book from one of the guys at the 188 Trading Post (may need a Speech check; I went that route but there was another non-Speech option I did not try); after Papa Khan reads it, similar options to the two Speech ones above will be available, with the same end results depending on which of the two you pick.

Due to a bug in either the script or the results generator, any option that leaves the Khans alive will be treated by both the quest update and Colonel Moore as if they had been destroyed. The ending, however, will reflect the actual result.

If you like the Khans and wish them well.....get them to break thier alliance with Caesar and do not try to get them to ally with the NCR. The dialogue with Papa Khan will show you the way to the solution that is in thier best interests. You'll like thier ending if you do it right.

I'm not on PC I can't use console commands

I have already Oh My Papa but apparently I can't tell the Colonel they're prepared to ally.

So do I just kill Papa and be on my way or is this a game breaker, in which case i'll be entirely [censored] off

I do like them but still I want to use them as bait for the legion to kill, I want them to charge in and kill for the NCR

They get the 'charge in' part right, but the 'kill for the NCR' part, not so much.

That being the case, I prefer to get them to relocate since they essentially waste their lives in the final battle.

I wanted them to have a good ending too. They weren't the best of factions and I don't know all the history but in FNV the younger Khans who'll one day be in charge were on a better path with making other medications, etc. Regis was willing to entertain the idea that there really was a miscommunication at Bitter Springs, I think. I saw better things for their future but didn't want to assassinate Papa even if he was holding them back with his understandable bitterness. The faction they align with after leaving Red Rocks was a sign of good things to come for them too and I wanted my path to take them there.

I never saw that battle with them allied with NCR so thanks for that...now I know for sure. I think it was the best ending for them.
