So I can't give my house the personal touch?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:17 am

One thing I loved about oblivion is I could waste countless hours of my life decorating each house with items in my inventory (especially the basemant of my anvil mansion). So when I bought my house in Markarth I decided it needed a nice Dwemer touch, who doesn't want to eat off plates that are 1,000s of years old surrounded by gears and scrap metal? After spending the good part of an hour setting everything up I went out to steal some more decorations from the museum and when I come back it looks like a crazed falmer broke in. So I set up a couple of plates, walked out, then came back in and the same exact thing happened. I'm assuming that its either a console problem or a game problem that I can't give my house the proper care that it so desperately needs.

O.O

That really svcks. I haven't done much heavy decorating in my Whiterun house, but of what I have done, things seem to remain in place...

Except for that damn Ebony Claw. Always ends up on the floor when I come back.

The exact same thing happened in my whiterun house. I must have spent a good 20 minutes propping different kinds of shields up by the doorway and arranging some collectables neatly on the table. Come back and it looks like a tornado has been through the place. And I've lost a precious diary since I can't see where it's gone.

The 1.2 patch is killing me.

Before the patch, I could put books on my shelves, now, the book-shelves eat up my books. Its very annoying, as I like having shelves full of books.

Not only that but there are only like two houses to decorate. Oblivion had eight.

There's a way to get objects to stay where you put them (rather than snapping back to the spot you dropped them), but I'm not entirely clear what it is.

I did manage to get my Statue of Dibella and Butterfly in a Jar to sit upright on a couple tables. Eventually.

If stuff you drop resets to the floor, it will only happen once.

Just place it again and it'll stay.

Not sure if items that appear there when you buy the house stay either, I've had cases where I've cleared off tables and it stayed that way. It seems to be a one-time thing.

for me it only happens once everytime i put something new into the house. if you pick the stuff up WITHOUT PUTTING IT INTO THE INVENTORY and place it again, it shouldnt happen again.

Yeah, I just put all my diamonds, sapphires, ruby's and emeralds in a kettle pot, only to have them scattered all over the place when I loaded to see if they would stay put. Got pushed through the floor too, for some reason.

:( I hope this can be fixed as I really wanted to decorate my house.

There are 6 in Skyrim. That's only 2 less than Oblivion and 5 more than Morrowind.

As for decorating: The bug with items being on the floor only occurs the first time you place them. So what you can do to not waste hours on decorating only to have to do it again is to go into your house, drop everything you want to place around on the floor, exit the house, and re-enter to place them on shelves and such. Every time you come back now, your stuff will be where you put it and not on the floor.

It should still be fixed, obviously, but at least you can work around it in the meantime.

I was going to ask if all the containers in Breezehome are safe.

However, after reading the amount of bugs found http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Breezehome I think I don't care anymore.

I have stashed the wooden containers near the bed and alchemy lab with all my gold and jewelry at the time I left. So, now I know it may not be there when I get back... The most sad thing is that it will probably never be fixed by an official patch or if it is, probably not in a long time.

/Sad.

P.S.: Plus Lydia does not seem to use her bedrom. All she does is sit up and down the chair in my master bedroom. Crazy pile of bugs there, for sure :(

There is a way to get around this until/ if ever fixed.

When you place everything out those placed items will always be scattered around when you return. Instead of picking them all up in your inventory again, just move them back to where you placed them when you next enter they will stay as put. Items will always scatter when you remove them from your inventory leave then enter again. But moving them from the floor without putting them back in your inventory will stop them from being scattered.

Hopefully its fixed soon, as i too like to decorate my house. But i'd rather they fix the major bugs first.

I've heard that if you save and reload inside a house this can cause your stuff to get tossed about due to textures and other things not loading as fast as other things, allowing your stuff to fall through or be thrown around. You're better off just not saving inside houses, but as someone said, just toss all your junk on the floor or in a small room, save, reload, exit and enter or whatever, go back in and place everything properly and it should stay. I put a bunch of centurion dynamo spheres about in my house and they've not been thrown around either.

And to guy saying morrowind had only one house, you got your faction's keep, which was huge, you got a house in Raven rock, plus just about any house you could EVER walk into. I had the Nerano Manor, nothing ever reset. Plenty of houses in morrowind.

How do people manage to get things to stay upright? Like I dropped a goblet on the floor, 10 minutes later I still can't get it upright.

The physics and collision in this game are worse than a game that came out 5 years ago.

FIVE. Years. Ago.

Yep. My Whiterun house now looks like I tried Fus ro dah indoors. And the things will always end up in the same place you dropped them. I dragged a dwarven helmet across the floor without picking it up. Came back later it was in the original spot again.

Eh, when it comes do decorating, they are most certainly worse.

Anyway, to fix this, drop your item, leave the cell, reenter, then leave and reenter. Now pace your stuff and it will stay.

That didn't happened to me..

I decorate my house, and leave, the next time i go inside the items are on the floor, THEN, i put them in place again, and leave, when i eneter again, they stand still on the places i put them..

Just do like me: Drop the items on the floor, leave the house a few times, 2 times are enough, then enter again, place everything where you want, and VOYLA. :D
