So yeah,I have about 50h in Fallout 4 and there's a big problem.

My fps keeps failing me all the time,I've tried to lower my graphic to High,Medium and low and it does not help altrough Auto detect sets me at Ultra High my frames keep falling from 50 to 30 and later on while in combat sometimes even low as 23.

All my drivers are up to date.

any idea what might help?

CPU: FX-8320E

GPU: XFX R9-270x DD

RAM: 2x4 GB 1366

MOBO:Gigabyte 970A-UD3P

And I play on natie resolution of 1366x768

Does that happen everywhere, or just in areas with lots of buildings, and such?

Everywhere but it is more prone of extreme low fps on areas with buildings

That doesn't really come as a surprise. LOTS of stuff to load/keep track of.... Probably, your biggest bottleneck is going to be the HDD..... lots of info needs to be loaded, and the speed of the drive is the weakest link.

Are you suggesting me to buy SSD?

Settings like Godrays and shadow distance affects FPS. Set Godrays to low and reduce shadow distance.

My God Rays are off and shadow distance was on High...Now it's on lowest

Check temperature of your graphic card. There may be down throttling due to temperature and thus affect your game fps. Check the fan profile.

Temperature is not the problem,max is 61 c

I got ssd fps 20-60 depending on what's going on, so don't feel like you need to buy 1 for that

30-50fps seems normal for your GPU. Although it shouldn't be dropping to <25fps in combat, it could be background processes or just limitations of your CPU.

You can also disable Vsync and use a third party application to lock framerate (e.g. MSI Afterburner). This might make your performance more stable.

I capped fps at 30,disabled vsync and still here and there my fps falls down on 20 for 1-2 seconds...

Back down some of the other settings.

You don't need Wetness enabled, Screen Space reflections, Rain occlusion, Len flare. Also disable Motion Blur (most people hate it anyway).

Set Object, Grass, Item, Distance Object, and Object Detail to approx. halfway.

Not just temperatue, its good to double check the configuration to make sure it was configured to maximum power instead of temperature. Meaning ur card will hit maximum power instead of say a certain temperature and it will throttle down to stay at that temperature...

Not sure I know how to do that.

Which drive has Fallout installed and which drive is your page file set to use?

I use drive D only for games(Fallout is there),everything else is on C if that is what you're asking.

For ur XFX R9-270x DD, does it has any software to monitor or overclock the GPU? Or what software do u use? The software will allow u to check ur fan profile and whether ur card was configured to use maximum power or limit based on thermal setting etc.

I think it has to do with our series of graphics cards since I'm having the same issue (R9 380, 4GB). Random FPS drops. Most noticable in the same places. When you unlock your game's vsync you'll get no such drops. You can do this by going into the folder where the configuration files are (documents/my games/Fallout 4) and search for the line

iPresentInterval=1

in both "Fallout4.ini" and "Fallout4prefs.ini". Change them to

iPresentInterval=0

and check your frames once again. Tell us afterwards what it does. Also: the game's internal speed will be messed up and you'll run faster than you should. Don't mind that for now. If you limit the FPS with something like Rivatuner Statistics server (application detection level on "medium" and then put the framerate limit to "60"), you should be able to play the game the way it should (as reported on many forums). Bizarre thing is that the framerate limiter doesn't work for me.

I've done that already,a bit more stable but still has drops (i locked fps to 30 )...

Next time I'm buyig Intel and Nvidia..

You have to monitor when the fps drop is it due to gpu clock speed doing down.There r alot of reasons but most of the time its due to temperature. Not familiar with MSI afterburner but is there power limit where u can modify. Should target power over temperature to make sure ur card doesnt throttle down when temperature increases...
