Can't level up?

Post » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:47 am

Could be some minor spoilers?

So I finished my first playthrough of earlier today. Since there are obviously many ways to finish the game, I decided to start a new character and play it through on hardcoe and choose a different way to end the game (to maximize the achievements I can get).

I started, everything has worked fine. However, my character won't gain levels. My exp is currently at 456/200. I'm in Primm, but I'm still level one. I tried reseting, sleeping, loading an earlier save, finishing quests, everything. It won't let me gain levels.

I tried googling it to see if anyone else had a similar problem - and I found one case. The guy said that he finished the game and started on hardcoe to have the same problem. Now, obviously, it would make sense to turn off HC and see if it lets me level, but that ruins my chances at the achievement. I could start a new character, but the other case I found said it was like that on every character he made, no matter how many.

Help!

I am having the exact same problem. I'm at ~1000/200 and nothing I have tried is helping. I thought, maybe Bethesda decided to make it so you have to sleep in order to level up (like in Oblivion). Tried that, but it didn't work. Then I thought, maybe I need to be fully healed to level up. Tried that, and again nothing. Reset the console? Nothing. I even tried to finish the quest I was on to see if it wanted me to wait until I did that to level up, but still nothing.

I was really looking forward to hardcoe mode, but at this point I cant hack, lock-pick, or clear a speech check. And if I can't do that, how can I expect to finish the main quest?

Kinda frustrating, but it's good to know it's not just me having the problem. Hopefully we get a fix soon :/

Yeah I've finished the game once already and now all of the sudden on my 2nd guy it won't let me level up also. Kinda pissing me off. 1600/200 exp, finished a couple quests but can't go any farther because I can't level [censored] up and I just keep dying now. Also, not on hardcoe.

I had this same exact problem too and the only way I got around it was to delete every one of my save files and start a new character.
I know it sounds like a lot, and it probably is, but my first character as kind of a test run through.

That sounds a bit extreme to me. Especially since they will probably be patching that within a week. But if your first file was a trial run then I guess it's not too much of a loss lol.

I just tried starting another file and this one wasn't glitched. Everything was fine.

Maybe the way it works right now is if you start a new file right after you beat the game, it glitches it. I personally started up a new character right after I came out of the credits for beating the game. No harm done though. Even though I had to start a new file again, the game is so good I didn't feel like I wasted time haha :)

I think it's an intermittent problem. I'm at Lvl 16 and at least 5 or 6 times it will make the level up sound, the little meter goes to the next level, but no "Level Up" screen pops up. Save often (I've started saving when I'm almost leveled up). If you don't get to level up, turn off your Xbox, restart it and the game, revert to your pre-level up save, and it should allow you to level up once you hit the required XP again. (Although it did it twice on one level. Had to reset twice, but on the third try it worked.) It's a real problem. I've lost about 4-6 hours of progress from the freezing, failure to level up, broken pip-boy,etc.

I am currently having the same problem. I finished my first playthrough earlier today, and now I am unable to level up on my second character. I have about 13k XP, and I only need 200 to level up.

Currently how I am feeling...

Hey guys

I'm told that the title update that went up on Xbox LIVE last night fixes this issue. If you're still having issues, try creating a new character.

The only 'solution' that has worked is backing up my game data onto an external device and remove all my game data from my hard drive. Starting from scratch it doesn't have a problem.... but that isn't a proper solution in my mind.

My leveling was delayed for a few minutes while in Primm, but it seemed like there was a problem because i was supposed to level up while getting shot at by convicts. 5 minutes later, after moving out of area, i finally got the prompt to level up. Other then that, no issues with gaining levels.
