I can't load my saved games

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:50 pm

I am using Windows 7 and vanilla Morrowind. My morrowind saved games are stored in C:\Users\Everfear\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind. However, whenever I play Morrowind and I click "Load" I don't see any saved games. This problem didn't start happening until today. What can I do to access and load my saved games in Morrowind?

Edit: I just moved my saved games into the same folder Morrowind.exe is in and now it works fine... I don't like it when things just move around and change on their own like this, especially when it's important files like my saved games...

Strange. The Save folder should always be inside the Morrowind directory, even in Windows Vista/7. Although not all games are like that. Sometimes they are in the My Documents\My Games directory.

It is not advisable to install Morrowind in the Program Files folder on Win 7, so if you have an option - reinstall it.

I don't know the reason, but several mod readmes (especially Morrowind 2011) advise you not to do it.
I also had many problems when I had MW installed in PF folder on my Win 7.

I have tried reinstalling Morrowind but the installer doesn't let me choose where I would like to install it... how do I install it in a different folder?

With UAC active the Program Files directories have increased access protection, which may cause problems with certain applications. Yes, you can tweak the folder properties to minimize or eliminate the access blocks, but to save the headache it is recommended to install applications like games outside of said directories.
