Can't make any mod work and getting sick of it pls help

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2016 9:29 am

I've been trying this since yesterday but actually I've been trying for years and everytime I tried, it was all about vainly spending a week into it until I give up.

I just can't make any mod or ENB work.

Yes I tried both Nexus Mod Manager and manual installations

Yes I have the SKSE launcher

Yes I've seen lot of tutorials including videos and such

Yes I asked all my friends that modded this game a lot but they mostly told me things I already know

Yes I've re-downloaded the game and all the mods many times and still nothing

The game either crashes or just lauches as vanilla. The mods show up at the launcher in data files, but when I lauch it from the SKSE launcher it's just the vanilla game.

I've been trying to instal RealVision ENB and some mods but nothing worked.

PC Specs in case anyone wonders

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 | 3.40GHz
AMD Radeon R9 380 | 4gb
Memory: 8 GBytes | DDR3
Mainboard: ASUSTeK | H61M-K
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate | 64 bits
Monitor: Samsung 1600x900 | 60hz

pls help ;_;

Literally follow this to a T and you can't go wrong. Doing so would defy the laws of logic and something. Like..I'm a nub when it comes to mods and I followed this and my game looks 100% exactly like that 0 issues.

To clarify, are you trying to mod? Or trying to add mods?

I hope I do not embarrass you, but I am a mod creator (for over a decade) and I very much would like to know what you were doing "differently" that derailed your success. What did you learn from the video that you were not doing before?

This would help me a great deal in understanding players (especially ones new to using mods).

Thank you very much for your candid response.

I might chime in here. I think that most people suffer (me included) when attempting to pick UP modding (except Skyrim, because virtually everything can be managed fine through NMM, not so much for OB and MW) due to the lack of clear details listing what to do.

Listen, I get it, it's modding, to you it's not hard. It's simple. But to me, to him, to "us" (newbies) this [censored] is extremely confusing. You all talk in your READMES and your FAQ pages as if we all are on the same level as you. We're not.

"Well just install WB". What the hell is "WB"? Oh, Wyre Bash. Okay.

What in the [censored] is "Wyre Bash"?

Do you understand where I'm going here? It's extremely confusing. I downloaded WB, and I still to this day have no idea how to use it.

-The buttons have no details or explanations

-The help menu 100% useless

-There are multiple uses for one program, so saying "just youtube WB" doesn't help someone install a new mod they want to try.

You need to understand you're changing critical game files, and if one thing goes wrong, boom, CTD. And when newbies try things out, it'll happen. But there's no learning curve whatsoever. It's very frustrating. NMM is at least somewhat decent in terms of being fairly self explanatory. But OBMM? Wrye Bash? LOL. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, blindfolded, while on fire.

I will chime in on were some of the problems are coming from. As a manager it is my job to show new employees at my sites how to use the company computer system/server. Up until relatively recently the new younger people were great and it was the older employees that needed some catching up. That has changed. For the most part the younger people coming on board only know Apps and know nothing about PC's. So a typical start to a conversation about logging on goes. So take the mouse and click on the "mouse? huh?" and it gets no better. So picture the great mass of people out there that only know swiping apps on their hand helds and you will see why there is a huge problem with understanding what many of us take for granted about adding even a simple mod to the game. Skyproc, WB, TESVI, editing an ini?? totally lost. Not anyones fault but if game writers and modders want people to continue to use mods their installation will need to be much easier.

I don't believe spooky meant any disrespect, in fact I think that's exactly why he asked the question. OP said they had done all the research, asked all the questions and read and watched all the tutorials but with just that one video it was all fixed. He was just asking what it was about that video that made things clear so it would better help him to write the FAQ's and readme's for more to understand.

The bottom line is that the majority of these mod authors do what they do for mainly themselves, and are nice enough to share their creations. Most will support their mods and try and help the best they can. Yes sometimes it seems that they talk in such complicated dialect that if you aren't a programmer/coder then you will be lost..that's not their fault. Sometimes there is no real easy way to explain in laymans' terms. There are some authors that put mods out and won't support or even answer any questions if they think you have no understanding of how to mod because quite frankly it becomes frustrating for them when people come and ask the same questions over and over. A lot of the times I see people asking questions or posting problems that are quite clearly stated in the mod descriptions and read me's. If someone can't even install a simple texture replacer then they really have no business on Sheson's page asking how to install DynDOLOD.

I have come a long way in just a few years with modding and it is frustrating at times. Ones that are new to modding need to know that these plugins aren't just "plug and play" as the name suggests, and with limited knowledge of PC's and file structures etc.. it could only compound the issue if they are trying to mod their game.

This isn't meant toward you or OP, but in the end some people should just stay away from trying to modify their games and stick to vanilla or consoles if they spend years with no success at modding. Just my 2 cents.
