So can I make my guy left handed?

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 1:34 pm

I see games where it seems being left handed is possible, but I get an extreme damage penalty for having it equipped in the off hand. I'd love to see Skyrim be the first rpg that allows me to have a left handed character.

That would be cool if they implemented a strong hand weak hand system. Perhaps you lose strength with one weapon faster than the other. And then one of your perks can be ambidextrousness because that can improve damage too

They may end up making that a choice at the beginning of the game (during character creation), and a perk could be one that allows you to be ambidexterous. I think that'd be pretty cool.

That's the first thing my wife said after reading the Combat article. "Does this mean I can be left-handed?"

Southpaws.

I hope the don't penalize you. You need this. The can openers of the world have done far too much damage to your poor, inverted soul.

Even though I'm left handed, it would feel strange for my character to hold a weapon in his left hand. I'm too used to seeing it in his right.

I love the strong hand weak hand thing. As long as we can choose which is which. The Ambidextrous perk is a great idea as well, a dual wielders dream Fantastic ideas. I'm glad to see I'm not the only video game oppressed left hander. We are out there. And we are growing stronger.

I like this idea a lot.

As for left handed being strange, I know over all the world is mostly right handed but, most of my immediate family are left handed. I'm the black sheep being right handed. :P

You know you can choose which hand stuff goes in, right?

I've seen games where this is always possible. But most games that allow you to dual wield make a penalty for off had stuff, aka things in the left hand. If we can define whether or not our characters are left handed, we solve this problem.

This is basically how I have understood the meaning of dual wielding, meaning you can right hand your shield and left hand your sword. Or maybe it will be changeable from the controls menu? Swapping right hand and left hand weapon commands so you get a left handed character? Either way, it would be realistic if it was possible. Some NPCs could also be left handed.

Or the could have no penalty at all and solve it right from the start. However I do like the concept of having a dominant hand, it also opens up the door for the cool ambidextrous perk

It's the same for me, actually. Despite being left handed myself, I've come to just take it for granted that fictional characters will be right handed, and when a character uses his left hand, it just stands out, which I suppose isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want that to be a notable character trait. In any case, I see no harm giving thwe player the option to be left or right handed could do, regardless, since since the game already supports using weapons in either hand, I can't imagine it being too hard to allow you to choose which hand your main hand is.

Left trigger = left hand. Cast spell, weapon attack etc.
Right Trigger = right hand. Same as above.
It's confirmed you will be able to equip any weapon or spell in either hand. I don't know about shield but I would assume so. Also, there is a separate button for blocking. I assume it will be the left bumper.

No problem, no real harm done. :D

Dominate hand may very well be determined dynamically but i have a feeling we will all be ambidextrous.

This so exciting to be one day soon playing the first video game in history to have true dual wielding, instead of faking it with two weapon attacking.

Unfortunately no. My mother is Welsh, and my partner grew up there, and when they were at school they both got grief for being left handed, actually being hit on the hands with wooden rulers for writing the way that was natural to them. Maybe the Nords are the same, seeing the left-handed as pariahs, and You Will Be Right Handed Like It or Not.
