Can't move food plants - any advice?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 2:19 am

I need to move my food garden at one of my settlements but can't move or store the plants when in workbench mode.

I've tried coming at them from every angle, up close, far away, with settlers around, with settlers away in bed.

No matter what they just won't highlight up for me to move them :sadvaultboy:

Anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

P.S. This inability to highlight them also means I can't allocate a settler to tend them - so the only use they are is, well, none lol.

Try standing on top of them and looking at your feet in first person, sometimes they are really difficult to highlight

I've had issues with them too. Can you highlight some of them? If so put a person on one of those. it seems like if they don't have someone caring for them for some reason you stop being able to click on them.

I'll try standing right on top of them, and yes, it is the ones with no-one tending them I am having difficulty with - I think.

Thanks.

Hopefully another thing on the list for a fix when they do the first patch.

I always have trouble with the Tato plants, i have to aim right at the very tip of the top of them for it to actually highlight them.

There are multiple immovable plant scenarios I've encountered, each with separate possible resolutions (none really good, just quasi workarounds)

1- plant at first does not seem to be highlightable, but as mentioned by others in this thread, this isnt an actual immovable plant per se but just difficult to target. After lots of trial and error I am able to determine within few sec if this is the case - up close and angled view is usually for me the solution (assuming movable because some really are 'dead zone' bugged it seems)

2- plant is actually not targetable under any circumstance and thus can not be moved - but it is not 'dead' - e.g. Worker can still tend it and crop will grow if worker has that plant within his proximity zone of ogher plants he is tending and that worker has fod production capacity leff

E.g. Say you planted 6 corn and 6 tatos, all within the radius a single worker can reach. This combo is 6 food production (0.5 per plant), so you assign 1 worker to a specific corn and that worker tends all 12 plants since it is in proximity zone.
-now lets say one or more tatos goes immovable on you.
-in this version of immovable plant bug, the plants are no longer highlightable, but the plants are not 'dead' - the worker still tends these immovable plants and it grows crop as usual

You can do one of several things -
-Do nothing as even though not movable, it still yields output.
-Console command remove the affected plants and re-plant with new ones (i find mostly it just bugs out again of replanted in sams vicinity, almost as if the location, not the plant per se is the root issue)

3- same scenario above but every single plant in particular area has gone immovable - and either no worker was assigned previously or worker gets unassigned for some reason - you now have an entire patch you cant highlight to assign a worker. Or move. It may be just immovable, or 'dead' and cant grow any crops.

Can try several things-
-plant ONE new plant, same or different type than affected plants, doesnt matter, within proximity range of affected plants
-unless incredibly bad luck, this just planted one should be movable and targetable. The immovable bug seems to happen after planting and going away, only very, very rarely have i had just planted ones go bad immediately.

-target the one newly planted crop - assign a worker to it. If the immovable plants are not truly 'dead', this worker will be able to tend the immovable plants due to proximity to new plant

4- if above did not work and you truly have 'dead' plants - meaning no crop yield ever grows on that plant, then only workaround i know is to console command delete it, and plant new crop (but as noted, lot of times when i have this issue, it seems the area just goes bad again )

This has always worked for me:

Save and get yourself killed.

The first time this happened to me i got so frustrated that I ran to the top of the that building at the drive in movie theater (where I was building; I built stairs leading to the top for a lookout tower) and threw myself off.

In hindsight, this probably wasn't a very good way to deal with my rage... But... It solved my problem.

For some reason all of my crops were moveable again. I think it might be because the cell resets or reloads? (Listen... I don't know how that works...) but it didn't work when I just reloaded the save. I have to kill myself. Every time.

I'm starting to get creative with it.

As an afterthought, I'm not sure if this can even really be considered a solution, or if it will work for everyone. I'm also concerned it will make my game buggy? (As I said before, I don't really know much about the technical stuff in games).

I have this problem too, and found something interesting last night.

I had a carrot that I could not pick up and move or anything. I had just moved it from a different location and planted it and it glitched out. If I went back to where it was originally, it would be invisible, but I could hover over it and store it back in my inventory. At that point, I could replant it from the workshop menu.
