Can NPCs use Thu'um?

Post » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:47 am

Well, the poll says it all.

I would personally love it.
I really don't see a reason why they shouldn't (especially if they are Nords).
It will also make battles way more exciting. ^_^

Well, of course it should be rare.
It would really lose its flavor in case every single opponent could do it.
Just imagine:

You: Die mudcrab!

Mudcrab: FUS RO DAH!!

Greybeards, and other dragons are the only ones I could think of at the moment.

True.
Would be cool if could see some other more powerful NPCs use them.
They should be rare though (check the example above).

Thu'um is not limited to Dragonborns.

Nice!
Battles are going to get really exciting with this! ^_^

Draugr apparently can. I'd guess a few select NPC's like the greybeards can but not just the average npc or bandit or whatever.

Actually, Greybeards can use Th'um, Greybeards are training you to use Th'um, Greybeards aren't Dragonborns.

Well I Thought The Reason For DrangonBorn Was So You Could Shout Aka Thu'um Or Is Thu'um Something Else?

It would be really exciting and good challenge to fight some renegade greybeards, plus Dragons use shouts so you already have at least one enemy type that will use Thu'um

Dragon shouts are a strong version of Thu'um magic. What makes the Dragonborn special is being able to absorb dragon shouls, which besides dragon souts may have another advantage not revealed yet (unlocking an artifact, opening an ancient ruin...). Don't think dragon shouts are so powerfull as to justify making the main character so important.

It would be also cool if a random generated NPC could challenge you into a duel (he would act as sort of competition or something) and could use Thu'um.
I think that battles like those could really reach epic proportions even though it's only two people fighting.

DBZ, EAT YOUR HEART OUT!!! :hehe:

This. Even then, the most powerful and ancient of the Greybeards have to be gagged, or else a whisper will utterly annihilate a small village.

Also, the Greybeards don't use it in combat, and are essentially pacifists. But...I have a feeling there will come a point where in order to see if you are really the Dovakiin in their eyes, they'll have to talk to you, ungagged. While most people end up bursting into ash....Tiber survived :) . So it's not like there's a case of everyone dying...just most.

Well obviously dragons use it, and it has been confirmed that a few other people, besides the greybeards, will be able to use limited thu'um as well.

In the leaked voice lines, didn't the greybeard guy say that no one has come up to the mountain to learn Thu'um in over 100 years?
