Can Obsidian Do Some of the DLC?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:31 pm

It probably felt that way to most because I'm betting people played it after they had already completely leveled up. Most the dlc's actually felt better and more tuned properly if you did them low level. I really enjoyed experimenting with the dlc and tried them all with an level 1 character. Usually the hardest part of that was getting to the dlc area without gaining any xp and without dying. Going in to any dlc at level 1 with absolutely no gear makes them all so much more enjoyable. At any level, it was always more interesting to go in with no gear. I think the only one I had a lot of trouble with was NV's Lonesome Road.. Usually the dlc's still scaled to your level but dealing with those sentry bots in the beginning is pretty impossible. The dlc's that played best from level 1 were Mothership Zeta, Operation: Anchorage, Dead Money and Old world Blues.

The funny thing about the Fallout Dlc's.. If you did manage to start the ones you could at level 1, you'd come out of them around levels 15-20 depending on the dlc. I found it weird that both Beth and Obsidian had the same trouble of giving out too much xp for the level caps they themselves had implemented.

Let Bethesda do their own DLC, Obsidian can do their own thing with their own game.

Yeah I'm with everybody that says 'yes, to an Obsidian spinoff' 'no, to Obsidian DLC'. Maybe Wyoming where we help Khans rebuild or something.

A guy can hope.
Not wanting them to write it. But just answer a question now and again, "We like this idea, does it fit with the lore? If not, what makes it possible?"
Particularly if they are building off of something that the original devs did. "What were you thinking when you came up with this idea, because we were thinking about doing X, does that fit with the original concept for this faction/location/event?"
Of course its gamesas's deal now and I'm not trying to put them at the kids table or anything. But I still maintain that a second set of eyes never hurts.

Obsidian should do Obsidian, Bethesda should do Bethesda, and they don't do each other.

The think tank , aka BIG MOUNTAIN was the most horrible dlc ever. The difficulty was fun, but otherwise, what a horrible story telling. Too much comedy too. It ruined the whole serious theme that we've been through all the game.

I personally loved that DLC.
There was of course DLC overarching story going on there, too.
I really liked how they handled the comedy, too though. Don't mess with Dr. Venture, he does well enough on his own.

Obsidian said they would like to do a game set in New Orleans.

True, but Obsidian also said Bethesda said no to them using a specific city, because Beth wanted to use it themselves in the future, and New Orleans was the only city the said they wanted to do that was outside the west coast.

That, and due to the east/west split between the two companies. I dont see Obsidian ever doing a game set east of tornado alley.

I think that if Beth continues to allow Obsidian to make a Fallout game they should continue with the West Coast story.

See, I'm really torn, because it'd be great to see the West Coast story continue. But I don't know if it would jive with how New Vegas handled things. And I really want to see other, less-explored parts of America, like Chicago.

Seattle would be a good city for Obsidian IMO.

Its close enough to the NCR that we could continue the west coast story, by getting a decent account of what went on in Vegas in regards to the dam, but far enough away that the NCR wouldn't be a major occupying force YET AGAIN finding conflict with some regional power like NV.

We know the NCR had trade going on with Ogden, which is 550 miles away from New Reno, and Seattle is 450 miles from Klamath, so its within the NCR's scope.

Portland, and whatever society formed there, could be used as a logical buffer as to why the NCR's expansionism hasn't reached Seattle as well.

And its in the last unexplored part of the American west. Well, the last part that matters.

Obsidian entirely? No way. This is Bethesda's baby, and they're gonna control it as much as possible. However, I think there's a high chance they'll consult Obsidian on certain story aspects. Obsidian effectively used Bethesda's models and made them better. Troglodytes? Bleh. Spore Carriers? Terrifying. Then you had the Ghost People, which I found to be amazing enemies.
