Common sense would be to make the game more recognizable to the franchise; that is, make it as close to how the series was made originally. Common sense what to expect is Skyrim with guns that does blockbuster sales, but is just as shallow and superfluous as all Bethesda games from Oblivion onwards, and while being visually stunning and probably taking some of the new tech potential into use, it probably drifts even further from the foundation and values the series used to have (they were happy with Fallout 3, they were happy with Skyrim - there's no incentive for them to do anything else but what they are used to, copypasting their last game with few tweaks).
To be honest, as well a job as they did, I wouldn't want that. The games were great and got their fame and recognition with what they were, not with what Killap made them to be (and honestly, some of the cut stuff was cut for a good reason). Mod content is not official content and that's that. People can freely download and use that stuff, but once you make it official, there's no removing it but with an effort. The only thing that could be negotiated are the bug fixes to the official content, but I have my doubts they're actually doing anything of potent with the games.
