Can't place a building

I'm new to the construction set. Anyway, I was following a tutorial on Youtube to create my own worldspace, and it was going pretty good, but then I wanted to put a building in. I selected a building, dragged it onto the worldspace (it had a crosshair shape on my cursor, so it looked like it was working) and then when I let go, nothing appeared. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

EDIT: Also don't know how to put a texture on. The guy in the video just selected it in the landscape editing window and applied it, but when I do that, it just lifts/flattens/softens the land as normal with no texture.

You may want to scale your project back a little and start http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/A_beginner%27s_guide%2C_lesson_1_-_The_Construction_Set_Primer. This 3-part tutorial teaches you all the very basics, like placing objects and painting with landscape textures.

That said, the object you are trying to place is probably just outside your camera view. Find it in the right side of the cell window and double-click on it to bring it into view. And you have to use your right mouse button to paint landscape textures; the left mouse button alters land height.
