Can we please keep the companions introduced in the next DLC

Post » Tue Sep 28, 2010 7:51 pm

So I finished Honest Hearts. Loved it. Especially the companions. Again.

It seems like with each DLC made by Obsidian, there'll be new companions. I'm assuming, anyway. Anyhoo, the thing is, I REALLY like these guys, and for whatever reason, I can't bring them back to the Mojave!

Which is weird, considering the ending slides for these guys.

Spoiler
Dog/God, in one ending, heads west, presumably towards the Mojave. And yet we can't re-recruit him!
Dean Domino's (alive) ending says ". Vegas still survived, out there in the Mojave. Its sights, sounds... and casinos, ripe for the taking." And yet he's nowhere to be seen!
Christine stays at the Sierra Madre, which is a shame.

And now, there's Follows-Chalk, the coolest tribal companion since Sulik (well, not that there were others...), and in his personal quest, you can even encourage him to see the world. And the ending even says (extremely minor spoiler alert!)
Spoiler
that he heads west. Again, probably towards the Mojave.

So this is kind of a minor gripe, but why oh why can't we re-recruit these guys! Some of you buy DLC for the armour and weapons, but some of us get it for the companions!

I love the weapons/gear/recipes added with each DLC and think a companion that could come back with you would be sweet but to be honest alot of the companion's skills that are helpful in the DLCs are completely useless once you leave the area you found them in. Its possible that they may create companions that stay with you after but I kinda doubt it will happen. Basically they're just there to help you through the DLC and thats it as far as Obsidian seems to be concerned.

Well, they don't have to be useless perks.

Or, what if they had alternate perks gained by their quests? Chalk could totally have some kind of card-counting perk for when you take him to a casino, seeing as how he's so interested in "places where people give away money so someone can shuffle around pieces of paper". :D

What I was getting at is it feels unlikely because it seems that as far as Obsidian is concerned the companions are little more than tools for you to use in order to complete the quests and don't seem to be worried about making companions that can function outside of the DLC itself.

I totally agree, and still have some hope we'll see Dean again. I liked Follows-Chalk as well. That Waking Cloud woman is a drag though. Haven't finished the DLC yet, so I'm not sure if there are any more.

I agree also I wish we could keep companions from dlc expecially Dean Domino,Also we should be able to have 2 human companions not 1 along with a dog or a robot.

I would agree that, based on their endings, one should definitely be able to take back Dean and Follows-Chalk.

You could roleplay that the Followers in DLC's would rather stay at their "homes." ;) Or they don't like you enough.

I think, if it was possible, that one should have a high CHA to be able to bring them back...eg you're so convincing they agree to leave their home to follow your awesome self. heh

Veronica deserves nothing short of the .50 caliber rifle round I snipe into her forehead every playthrough :whistling:

God why? D:

She's my favorite companion by far. Yeah she's BoS, but I get her to leave them and punch legionaries on behalf of Mr. House instead.

Dean and I had a bit of a disagreement backstage. He, sadly, did not have the choice of coming with me or not. Plus God was a much better companion to take with you out of the Sierra Madre, pragmatically speaking.

I still find it amazing our character just has amnesia whenever he meets up with one or the other.

Or the Courier's brains have been too scattered to put two and two together.

She's the most whiny and annoying companion in the game.

"Does jumping at them with my fists count as ranged?"

No [censored] it doesn't shut the hell up and quit switching to the damn power fist.

"Awww you're making me carry the heavy stuff aren't you?"

Yup thats what you're for now shut the hell up.

"Is it a dress?"

No its heavy stuff shut up and quit whining.

Well the DM and HH companions are fat chance to be patched into companions.
Since we have never been able to bring companions into DLC areas (with the exception of BS's (excluding AAFB)) I think there is a problem that prevents them from allowing us to bring them inside a DLC or companions in the DLC outside.

So how about this: Obsidian, for the next DLC, OWB and LSR, how about, if it makes sense for the characters, to have the characters fitting as companions end up in the Mojave after the epilogue of the DLC?
Could've been done with The Merge, could've been done with Dean, could've been done with Follows-Chalk.

Haven forbid they put some humanity into them.

She is primarily melee, never mind what her stats say, they made her prefer melee as her thing. Now wouldn't you be a little annoyed if someone told you to do something outside of what you normally do or like to do?

Would you want to carry someones [censored] all day just because they said to?

She never had a dress in her life. Can you blame her for wanting one?

The problem is you think of her as a pack mule rather then an actual companion. From a game perspective, sure they are all pack mules, but from an RPG perspective, they are other people. For me, she has a sense of humor. I like her over every other companion, even the ones in Fallout 3. (God I [censored] hated Fawks)

No companions for Lonesome Road, Old World Blues is a different story.

This. I love Veronica as a companion. Her and Raul always keep me entertained haha.

Sidenote: I absolutely detested Fawks, except when he showed up on the Enclaves front door.

Follows-Chalk was amazing, my favorite companion out of the two DLCs so far. I would love to have him as a companion in my Mojave Wasteland. Me and him would kill Boone together!
