Can Provisioners be recalled and replaced?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 9:22 am

Now that I can build Bots on demand, I read that you can use them as Supply Line runners.

Which got me wondering, how can I recall the Provisioners currently active back to their settlements and replace them with a Bot?

How do you get a Settler to return to their Settlement and stop being a Provisioner?

I assume once they return to being an ordinary Settler, I can then build the Bot and assign it to do the supply run in their place.

I'm not sure you can recall them.

Wait until they are not around any settlement and assassinate them maybe?

If you remember which settlement you sent them out from, or which one you assigned them to, you can just wait there for them to turn up. Once they enter the settlement boundary you can reassign them to something else, although their names remain "Provisioner".

I did manage to identify and replace one of them, but it wasn't easy.

The first problem was that the Provisioner never stood still long enough for me to assign them to something.

Eventually I settled for just sending them to another Settlement to get them away from their assigned duty.

Which seemed to remove the supply line, allowing me to reassign my http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=650942131.

Since he went on the correct path and showed up in the Mechanist's Lair an hour later, I assume the process worked.

However, it won't be so easy with Hub Locations, such as http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=650942384.

The number of Provisioners coming and going means identifying them individually is incredibly difficult!

Not to mention the fact that my reclaiming of all the Settlements in the area means there are several lines to reassign.

Finding each individual Provisioner would be nearly impossible, as their time at each settlement is limited, they show up, walk around for a bit and are gone again.

I think this system needs to be revamped, that you don't need to be physically near or even see the NPC you are reassigning.

Just locate them on a list and do a drag/drop reassignment,

Do bots become protected if they become provisioners? I would hate to see my supply lines going down because a bot was destroyed.

Still, I'll keep my human provisioners. The reason most of them was assigned the job in the first place was because they didn't fit whatever aesthetic I was going for in one settlement or another and giving them provisioner duty was a useful way to get rid of them.

I don't know if Provisioners are protected.

Or if Bot Provisioners are protected.

However, I've made sure to give them enough weapons to deal with any enemy that decides. hey, the supply carrying Sentrybot looks like an easy target.

They are outfitted with two miniguns, two cluster bomb launchers and heavy armor.

Any enemy who attacks my Sentrybot Provisioners deserves what happens next.......

I read that the usual cause of Provisioner death is radiation exposure.

If they go through a high rad area or an extended area of low radiation (large bodies of irradiated water, like oceans or lakes), the next step will be digging a grave for their glowing corpse.

That's why certain routes are recommended for Ghouls, as they do not have this vulnerability.

Since Bots aren't affected by Radiation Exposure either, this means they can take any route as well.

I'm not sure how they deal with the issue of water exposure.

I haven't assigned any of them to aquatic routes yet (like the one to Spectacle Island).

Maybe that's something we aren't supposed to think about.

Let's just pretend they have really good waterproofing.

I heard one tell me that they don't sleep, don't eat and are rust proof.

Human provisioners can be kidnapped, interrupting your supply line. I doubt bots can.

I haven't confirmed this, but try using the bell that calls all settlers in a settlement. I think that also calls the provisioner, and then you should be able to change him or update his gear.

The easiest way to handle this is to go where the caravan stops, not where it starts at a hub.

Of course, the easiest way would be a developer of a game actually put in an option we can speak to our caravan at any point in their travel path and ask them to go back to their ORIGINAL settlement, but nooooooooooo. Not only do we not get this option, we also don't get to know what settlements those provisioners are trekking between.

All we get is an icon of a two-headed cow. :flame:

When they are in their home settlement, you can command them to do another job.

When they are in EITHER settlement, you can move them to a new settlement (which cancels out their job).

~Edit~

I am retiring a lot of my human Provisioners to the island settlement, where they gonna fight Deathclaws next month for my amusemant while I perform experiments on other. I am replacing them with robot Provisioners because Robots are far superior for the job.
