When I built homes with the Hearthfire add on, I built alot of display cases to display different collections. I can't use a one of them, only open and close the lids. You aren't supposed to just "throw" your items in these cases are you?

Hm, e never use them but i guess the idea is exactly to throw them there.

You can't interact with the display cases in the HF homes.

Drop them, exit the cell, pick them up and position them the way you want.

Not to sound ignorant, but how do I go about doing that? I dropped them, went to the cellar, came back up, picked it up, and tried dropping it into the case. Couldn't even drop it in one. Am I missing something remedial? After that, I tried to put it into the weapon rack on the wall and it wouldn't even place it there. Threw it about 5 feet to the right. Parts of this game really cheese me off!

What are you trying to put on display? When you pick it up you pick it up my hand, you do not add it back into your inventory, just hold the button you usually use to pick up stuff, but hold it a bit longer and you can move it around. yYu left it there and ran for a door, so the house would know the item was there, then you "pick it up' and put it where ever you want. Other wise the house would just record where it was dropped, and not where you put it, so you need to drop and run before arranging anything by hand. To use the weapon racks you just quip the weapon from your inventory, and then click on the weapon rack and it will appear in the rack, weapon plaque or shield plaque.
