Can Raiders Take Your Settlement?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:00 pm

So we know you can make settlements, we know it will get attacked by raiders, but what happens when you fail to defend it? Does it become occupied by raiders, do they kinda just go away, or do they wreck the place?

Any ideas how this mechanic will work?

"No surrender! No mercy! Allahu Akbar!"

*save reload*

I honestly think they would just chase after you until you died and reloaded.

My guess is Raiders won't be able to physically seize your settlements, but potentially raze it to the ground, kill the unique merchants, and basically leave your community destitute and in need of rebuilding.

Sort of like how Mount and Blade: Warband does it.

It would be cool if they take over your settlement, or just did a scorched earth policy, and burned it to the ground. Maybe a bit of back and forth? They take it over, but maybe not forever, they use it just long enough for them to get something out of it, then move on? But I don't think Bethesda's AI is that detailed.

I feel it would be far better if they occupied your settlements. Maybe have them rip up all the crops to eat, since they're not much for agriculture, etc. As for the rest of your infrastructure, it would be best/easiest to leave as is, and just have them be living there until you clear them out again.

And how about they people living in the settlement? Are the raiders going to treat them like neighbors?

Dead, or enslaved, would be my guess.

I hope so.

And I hope that they rebuild the defense system against you.

I wouldn't count on it.

I'm guessing it will be a lot like the small groups of bandits that could potentially attack your Hearthfire houses in Skyrim. Whenever you're there, there will be a chance to spawn a group of enemies that attacks you and your defenses. And it's just generally a fight to the death.

The bandits in Skyrim might kill your chickens and non-essential housecarls, but they wouldn't "take over" the house if you ran away.

But who knows? I had no idea they were going to implement this much customization and crafting features. Maybe they'll surprise me even more when the game comes out.

I guess they could raid and capture a few of the citizens in the settlement then you'd get a quest to rescue them, would have to be slavers though, raiders would probably just kill, loot, [censored], and pillage not necessarily in that order.

This is Bethesda we're talking about. No, they won't be able to take over your settlement. They'll just try to kill the inhabitants and you and nothing else.

Hopefully they take OVER your Settlement and thus you create the next town /encampment of Raiders who use your automated guns against you.

I predict that raiders kill random npcs, break your stuff, take away resources etc, but they'll never actually "win", take your settlement, or kill anyone important. These games aren't known for actual consequences.

Agree, note that the FO4 settlements is without cells, so they could kill everybody, roaming raiders will most likely move on.

They might steal weapon and armor who is loose or on dead bodies.

Now its some chance they will hang out if this is an radiant attack and not only that they get pulled close to your settlement and then attacked.

If they take over the settlement, why would you want that settlement back? Just make a new one.

One would hope the dialogue system is dynamic enough so when you name your town 'Bartertown' that characters in game start talking about it or getting the Caravan from Diamond City to Bartertown.

much more important if you ask me:

can I take RAIDERS' settlements?

no kidding, i mean it: this always freaked me out in fallout as well as tes games, you, like, clear some cave of bandits, and then it's all like "STEAL mead" and "you can't sleep in an owned bed"??? - c'mon, i just friggin' CONQUERED the place :-))

...and another thing about raiders, i think it's be cool if they became more npc less monster (technically speaking, not morally :-), so that like a "bad" character had the option to make friends with them, join them, become their faction's leader etc

edit: oh, just saw there's an own thread about that, sry...

i was thinking about when do they attack? is it only when your there which would be dull or more random and you get a message kind of 'help the town is been attacked', then you can run back or leave it to your defenses

I just hope for a more "dynamic" system, I would like it if I had to retake the town, rather then seeing my settlement destroyed and having the raiders move on, and with possible NPC path-finding I don't see why this can't be possible.

I guess my real concern is that your adversaries will just hang around your base waiting for you to show up, so that they can launch an attack directly on you. Thought this was ludicrous in Skyrim, I'd just led the giant stand around using his club as a back scratch tool, and get around to killing him when I grew bored with him. If you ran away, the bandits would just hang around until you got back, and they'd ignore your steward totally.

My ideal in fallout would be a random scenario in which that bandits/raiders/super mutants , could attack at anytime, and you would have someone left in charge (possibly a companion) to maintain defenses. If it wasn't working out well, then you'd get a mayday on your pip boy. You'd either come running back promptly, or let fate decide. Consequences!

I don't see your settlement getting too thrashed, just maybe the power grid and armaments destroyed,/ and non essential NPCs either killed or running away never to return... It will be interesting to see how this is balanced... and if it's realistic and quasi believable. Probably asking for too much...
