Can I remain a vampire lord and still do the companion quest

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 12:49 pm

As the title tells it, is it possible to do the companion quests and still remain a vampire lord the entire game? I don't want to become a werewolf, but would like to finish the quests.

No, you have to become a werewolf in order to progress the quest line.

You can do the first few quests. But you have to become a werewolf in order to advance further.

Your going to have to become a werewolf to finish the quesline. You can however cure when you cure kodlak and then just ask Serana to turn you back into one.

I did the companions quest line as a vampire lord. Right after I got turned into a werewolf and went on a rampage and got ported to the next stage of the quest line, I fast travelled to Castle Volkihar and Harkon turned me back into a vampire lord. I finished the companions quest line as a vampire lord and no problems. However if you do want to become a werewolf again, you only have one other chance.

Spoiler
I am still able to do the random companion quest lines after the main line has been finished but I still haven't received any quests to cure certain others of lycanthropy. I am not sure if that is due to being a vampire lord or if I had killed all the glenmoril witches (even though I took all their heads and have them in a chest...)

Possibly by doing such you created a broken quest? Apparently grabbing items before a quest says to can break them.

I cured myself of a vampire, did the companion quests. And then became a vampire lord again, it is possible to be both at once.

I don't think that's right. I'm pretty sure you can only be one or the other at a single time and not both simultaneously.

Well technically speaking you're not supposed to be able to, but theres a glitch that does allow it. I see it all over youtube.

Speaking of the Vampire Lord and the Companions, does anyone know what happens if you:

1. Advance the Companions' questline to the point when you get Lycanthropy.
2. Go play the DLC and side with Harkon, removing Lycanthropy
3. Finish the DG questline
4. And speak with Falion to cure vampirism.

Will the lack of Lycanthropy break the Companions' questline?

Someone else was saying, not me though, that you can cure it right after the point where they turned you into a wolf by becoming a vampire. And that the story would still continue, but for whatever reason he could not get the side quests to cure any of the other companions at the end.

I believe in order to start the cure quest you need to have the witch heads with you in your inventory for a couple of days before they ask to be cured.

I'm not sure, I just have the witch heads stashed in a chest in my home but I can try and see what happens. It's not real big deal to me and I don't really have interest in the totems since I don't plan on playing a werewolf on this toon. However the main quest line was finished as a vampire, starting from the point right after I got infected with lycanthropy, I turned right back into VL. Apparently the companions aren't scripted to care. The only part is that when you speak to Aela, you have the option to turn back into one, but only once. Otherwise no one gives you flak unlike the vampires in Castle Volkihar.

One thing I am interested in testing is seeing if I can cure Vilkas (my husband) of lycanthropy and turn him into a vampire with one of the side quests from Vingalmo.

I'm intrigued as to how this turns out. I may have to try it if I get around to playing as a vamp (gotta get the DG questline to work first -_-).

Apparently having the witch heads in my inventory triggered the Purity "cure" quests. I had to do a bunch more radiant quests before the option came around. However I did run into a glitch, which was known PRE dawnguard. It was with Vilkas and he would bug out after you accepted his quest. The quest would be in the complete section yet not marked completed. He will stop following you once you leave the building (I have him in my Riften house) and he will take up a follower spot and lock it. I was unable to pick up any other followers even though I don't use it. Unfortunately I was getting lax with my saves and was relying on auto save. I messed up my game and had to go back to a save file that was created a few hours ago.. learned once again.

Now to avoid this messy situation, it is best to cure Farkas first. For some reason he was bugged out also, as he did not provide any quests (I couldn't remember if he did or not but found out he was bugged). You should be able to do the quest fine with him and then with Vilkas. The second time around after I loaded my save, the Farkas quest turned up first but apparently from google searches, if you get Vilkas first, decline his quest.

It was a complete headache, but again I reiterate that this is not a vampire lord or a bug related to dawnguard.

I did a few vampire quests and then they told me to speak to Vingalmo.. I was stoked and then found out it was for someone else. Still waiting to see if I can turn Vilkas after he's cured.
