Can my pc run new vegas?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:00 pm

The 6870 is supposed to be better than the 5850 and the 6850 is supposed to be better than the 5830. The 6870 will likely be priced around $250 and the 6850 around $200.

A lot of people have been recommending GTX 460's but I would suggest the GTX 470. There have been a lot of great deals for the GTX 470. I got mine a while ago for $250 after rebate. You can easily find them for only about $30 more than a GTX 460 1GB version. The performance boost is significant, especially on higher resolutions. Definitely get a GTX 470 if you can find it for around $250 to $280. However, they do run pretty hot and their fans are loud at higher settings so you need a case with good ventilation.

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to PC gaming so I don't know much about video cards and things similar to that and I would appreciate it if someone could give me the rundown over whether or not I can run New Vegas. I'm away at college right now so I don't have my PS3 or 360 which as you can guess were my primary means of gaming, and since I don't have them I'm going to be using my Macbook Pro 15" to play(or at least hope to play) New Vegas. I have the 2.4 GHz 15" model which would be the one shown here http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro. I am going to be using bootcamp to play it on Windows 7 since it's not playable on Mac OS X. Since I don't know much about PC specs in regards to gaming I'm just going to copy the info listed on my macbook that I think you need to know:
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
4 GB of RAM
I appreciate the help and hope you all enjoy the game hen it comes out.

It should run the game fine on about medium (maybe a touch of high settings) depending on the resolution.

This is the first time I have upgraded my PC specifically for a certain video game, which has convinced me that I really am addicted to Fallout. :fallout: I mean WTH?!? However I still have the same video card I've had for I think about a year, an ATI Radeon 5770 - which runs Fallout 3 on ultra-high settings but not sure what it will do with New Vegas.. Oh well, only a few days to find out!

I wonder - will New Vegas take advantage of extra ram if we have 4 gigs?

The GPU should be fine to run the game on ultra settings. But the game itself (since its probably a 32 bit application) wont take advantage of all that RAM. Not to say it wont help, the OS has more room to play with then. But the game shouldnt use more then 1.7GB-2GB without crashing.

I wouldn't expect it to be that much different in NV with your card, which is still consider pretty good today. I doubt the game will make use of 4GB of RAM...at most by itself, I'd be surprised if it took advantage of 2GB.

Thanks for the input guys. :) I think I'm good to go then!

I got Windows 7 Prof going finally (surprisingly good) on a Phoenix SSD, I think that was the biggest upgrade that I'll notice in-game. Can't wait!!

Not sure if I'm posting this info right? What would be a good video card for my system and how well after adding video card could I run this game?

Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz

Memory: 8192MB RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4200

Display Memory: 3177 MB
Dedicated Memory: 365 MB
Shared Memory: 2811 MB

I have that vid chip with less dedicated memory and it runs fo3 just fine at mid/high settings no aa... yours should do just fine in the mid high to high settings range.

Resolution plays a big factor too in settings. Just what do you have your resolution set to?

Okay thanks for the response. I don't know anything about video cards these days, LOL.

Will the game make adjustments to the sliders for me when I install?

It should, but you can adjust above to find the best looking for the best performance.

Low to low-medium settings. :spotted owl:

:D C'mon, you know that'll run it maxed-out at most resolutions. Similar to my setup 'cept I'm using an Intel CPU.

I know.

I looked at a I.7 but I got the AMD for less and I have had good luck out of my AMD. I got my 5870 (and my 4870) because I had trouble out of my first (and last) Nvidia card.
