Can't scrap beds in tenpines bluff

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 2:15 am

I knew I wouldn't be able to scrap the existing shack that the two settlers lived in, but I figured once o built a new structure over the ruined house I would scrap everything in it and use the shack as a generator housing. I've been able to scrap everything else in that hit but their two mattresses. Am I missing something?

No, you cannot scrap the beds in the little shack. The only bed you can scrap is in the ruined house.

If you do Outpost Zimonja be aware that there is a ladder that you cannot move, scrap or even delete (using console commands on the PC). It has 2 beds, but I do not recall if they can or cannot be scrapped.

Well, to tell the true, you can scrap existing items, as the beds, even if they are marked not. At least, I scrapped all the beds in Slog and i replaced them with new ones.

1. build a floor (even small ones are ok)

2. point a bed, keep pressed E key (PC, of course), even if greyed, for a while, and the bed will be selected, and you will able to move it.

3. place the bed on the floor

4. scrap the floor. The bed wil disappear with the floor.

Now you will be able to build another bed and assign it to everyone.

Is it an issue of bed ownership? If so, you may be able to manually tell the NPC where to sleep and then scrap the bed. I know named NPCs are a little wonky but, in theory, it should work...haven't tried it yet.

Nah tried to reassing beds in Slog after having build few new ones, didnt worked. The "Sloggers" gone to sleep on old beds, even if they was marked in red.

But you can actually remove old beds with the trick that is in my previous post.

You can also store the floor, instead of scrapping it, if you prefer. It will yield the same result.

Yes, you can assign the old beds -- and you have to, since any settler without an assigned bed lowers the happiness. The way to assign them is to find the right settler to which the bed belongs. Wiseman, Deirdre, Jones, Holly, and the 3 "Workers" all sleep on their SPECIFIC beds. For instance, in the room with the 5 beds, Wiseman HAS TO BE assigned to the bed in the middle. Assigning him to any other bed will not work, and the bed will stay assigned (red icon), lowering your happiness. Likewise, the two beds next to his have to be assigned to two of the "Workers". They can't just be any of the Workers: one SPECIFIC Worker has to sleep to the left of Wiseman, and another SPECIFIC Worker has to sleep to his right. Since all 3 workers are named "Worker", you can only trial-and-error to find out the correct beds for them. This is a pain, of course, but you have to do it to raise happiness. Note that these people will still sleep on those beds even if they are not assigned to them (red icon), but you will STILL lose happiness. The only way to get happiness is to actually get the beds assigned to them (green icon) via the painful method described above. As soon as you get a few of these beds assigned, you will see a green arrow next to happiness, confirming it is rising because of what you just did.

Adding to the confusion is that you can't assign Arlen (the "toy part" guy) to anything, not even to the pre-existing bed that is obviously there for him. So his unassigned bed will always cost you happiness.

The settlement feature is a TON of fun. I still feel like a beta-tester though :P
