What's the use of traps in passage if settlers run out anyway instead of waiting for enemies to come in?
Can settlers be locked in settlement under attack?

Traps are pretty pointless, only use i see is then enemies tend to spawn at the fast travel location
Turrets works better,
There was a misguiding tutorial about traps early online, it was misguiding because it said you had to repair traps. apparently they and turrets are automatically repaired after attacks after revisits, it's probably the scavenger workbench that does it when a settler is assigned to it.
So if only settlers would stay inside settlement then they might be useful at the castle since it's got a long path leading to it.
I wonder if it has to do with resources, if they have resources to repair locally or has an caravan they will repair. If not they will not.
Anyway for traps to be effective enemies has to stay in the area effect for some time.
Most relevant place for this is the spawn point as many just stand there and shoot for some time and a DoT area effect would be effective.
Some of items I have to repair self and some auto rep. Settlers cannot be locked into the settlements under attack, they will arm themselves with guns and run after these hostiles. It take some time before the settlers will come back, specially if they are on alert. Traps etc don't work well, so use turrets.

Each time I've set traps, settlers have walked through them within minutes. Pointless and a waste of development resources if they couldn't make them work sensibly.
It should be possible to setup laser triggers with a terminal that only turn on traps for enemies unless settlers are out there melee fighting them
