Can someone give me a fallout 4 review?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 6:48 am

So I have a question, can anyone give me an 100% honest fallout 4 review? I have yet to play fallout 4, so I have been looking on the Internet for reviews of it. The reviews I found however are mixed. Now I assume that the reason for this is because the people who like fallout 4 are busy playing the game and those who don't like it are stating their opinions of the game first. Critic scores are very high, user scores are mixed (both high and low). So the following is the type of people I see talk negatively about fallout 4:

-Those who dislike the graphics and bugs

-Fallout 1 and 2 elitists

-Those who dislike some of the changes made to this game

-Those who where disappointed by the game due to how hyped up it was

-Those who felt it was to similar to fallout 3

-Some do not like the added/removed features

-There are more different reasons why some dislike it, but those are the most common

So all that being said, to those who have played the game, and to those who liked it, how good is the game? Also could you please discuss all area of the game (story, characters, moral choices/writing/dialogue and voice acting (which I have heard is better in this game/ the best bethesda has done so far/yet), music, combat/gameplay, exploration, customization, settlement building, power armor, etc.) So from those who have played it/enjoyed it/etc. could you give me a review of the game/tell me how good it is? Also did it live up to the hype? (No spoilers please)

I would like to note that I enjoyed fallout 3 a lot more than new vegas although I did really like the dlc for new Vegas (I liked both games a lot, but I just liked 3 better), so because I liked 3 more, will I like 4 a lot as well?

In a few minutes you'll be bombarded by dozens of comments followed by an absolute flame-war.

People on both sides will be shouting over each other about whether or not this game is good or terrible.

Let me be honest: I don't like this game, but I can't in good concious give you a "review" because it would be too biased and emotionally charged.

I'll say this: A LOT of people love this game, but A LOT of people are having trouble with it from a technical standpoint, a gameplay standpoint, and a story standpoint.

Do some more research (not just here) before coming to a decision either way.

Best of luck!

Why not play the game and for your own perspective?...That's what I did, and I love it so far!

To be fair, because that costs money.

It's perfectly fair for someone to try to come to a decision about their purchase before they make it.

It's difficult to tell at the moment because those who are loving it are busy playing it. Steam says that 4.5 million hours were already played of it by yesterday. The spoilers section is busy. The forum is actually more mildly mannered than after previous releases.

So, what you see on the forum (this one and others) are people that don't like it, people experiencing bugs and other problems and people who just enjoy moaning.

It's fine not to like the game. Really, all games are personal taste when it comes down to it. Thankfully they are already identifying bugs and releasing patches so from that perspective I have faith those will be ironed out to the satisfaction of most.

And if you just don't like it, chalk it up to a that's life lesson. If it's a retail copy, sell it used and use the money toward a game you do like.

I have no idea if I like it or not. First I haven't gotten it and secondly my pc won't cut the mustard. I'll have to wait to find out. But I won't not play it because of something I heard on a forum or a review I read. I'll take it for a spin and see for myself. I suggest the same for you.

Everything except story and graphics are better than The Witcher 3 but that doesn't say much since The witcher 3 had terrible gameplay.

It's a Bethesda game, plain and simple. If someone's enjoyed their past releases then they will most likey enjoy this one. If not, then no. Yes it svcks that they've stripped a lot of things out and streamlined it a great deal but I think they're also not getting enough credit for what they've added in. The same thing happened when NV came out. People bashed it for not bringing enough new things to the table when it added a ton of new features. They really did listen to a lot of feedback and are trying hard to please a lot of people, which is not easy to do.

Actually I was under the impression that they already bought it yet didn't start it while waiting for a review, which is not uncommon, but if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.. :^) No worries.

Hard to do a review, it's only been out for two days.

If you like a mysterious open world game with lots of different stuff trying to kill you, this game may be for you.

I share the same questions OP. The polarizing reviews have me quite confused, and I do realize that most most user reviews on metacritic are trolls.

What I would honestly like to know is how is the perk system, especially in comparison to Skyrim's? Both seem similar on the outside and Skyrim's perk system was IMO very shallow and one-dimensional.

Is Fantastaballs a word?

Because I think I saw it in Cracked article.

Turns out it's a perfect fit for Fallout 4.

You know, if it exists...........

Great game experience overall which I'm really enjoying however:

Enemy AI and movement patterns after being engaged/ alerted are terrible.

There's problems shooting through gaps in the environment.

Occasional collision detection issues.

*Edit

Oh yeah and on the subject of AI the dog is a total and utter pain in the ass for standing in the wrong place at the wrong time impeding your movement and sometimes it's second dialogue options don't open after selecting talk from commands.

Hopefully the developers get around to fixing some of these niggles before focussing on more content.

Just get it and review it yourself. You like Fallout? Don't think you'll be disappointed regardless if you do. At least not to the point where you write off the franchise.

If you want mostly Fed-Ex and garbage quests then F4 is the game of the year.

Well I have my own like 5 paragraph review already on this forum that also talks about the massive things people said were the major issues with the game, but since I don't want to rewrite it all (you can check it yourself if you want) I'm just going to sum up the parts that were very good, bad, and otherwised mixed to me at least:

The good:

Combat is very much improved in every way, AI actually has intelligence and blind fires and seeks cover, and the amount of different and actually impactful mods on every single gun is astounding, as well as the improved armor system. (that I still don't understand fully)

Power armor is everything it should've been x50. Everything in my opinion was everything an improvement and you actually feel like the unstoppable tank you wanted to feel like before.

Settlement building, but I haven't gotten to much into it and many people claim it's a tad shallow.

VATS is way better.

Mixed: (things you may or may not like depending on who you are)

Removal of repair and hardcoe mode, I didn't like this but they did at least they replaced each with something new, even if it didn't bare many similarities. (repair -> crafting system, hardcoe -> survival mode)

Voiced protagonist and new dialog system. I think the actor sounds great, but the responses you can choose from are indeed quite lackluster.

Removal of skills and addition of many perks. I really feel mixed about this, on one hand they did some great new things, on the other they did remove many RPG elements, namely specialization in certain aspects. I wish they just had both skills and perks.

Good effects but pretty bad textures. Actual quality of the items is pretty bad, but the better lighting and animations cover it up very much.

The bad:

Pretty short story from what I hear. Not very great either.

Bugs.

Companions are kind of screwy.

Mainly it's just technical issues.

Bad quests from what I've heard as well

So yeah, that sums it up for me. Hope this helps at least. I really wouldn't take any review to heart though. Many people are probably not even level 10 and have only clocked in maybe 15 hours tops.

I liked New Vegas more than FO3, and I've been playing the games since the first, so that should give you an idea of my biases. I'm also playing on PC, ultra settings.

The game looks fantastic. There are a few nitpicks with textures, but overall it's great. Animation and movement is not BGS strong point, and it's only so-so, but I barely notice. A few of the bugs from old games are still around. I watched an NPC in a sitting animation fly through a house and across my settlement to end up sitting on air over a scrapped house's foundation. Ragdoll physics occasionally go crazy, etc. I'm a little surprised that this hasn't been improved, but none of the above is a big deal, IMO.

Exploration is great so far, typical BGS. The improved graphics make it even more of a pleasure.

Dialog and dialog system is meh. Probably a step down from earlier games, such as Skyrim, if you're trying to roleplay different characters. You generally get 3 - 4 responses for everything: Yes/More Info/No/Sarcastic. Voiced characters actually contribute to the problem, if the personality doesn't match what you're trying to play.

Combat is decent, probably an improvement on FO3. They give you a lot soon into the game, but also limit your ability to get into godmode due to resource scarcity. The gun and armor crafting system is pretty good. Combat seems to be a little more difficult and maybe even more balanced than previous games, but as I write this I'm wondering if I'll be eating my words in a couple of weeks.

The settlement features have been more aggravating than a bonus for me so far. It builds on what we've seen in previous BGS games (all the way back to Morrowind), but the engine is wonky, and occasionally it's impossible to place a wall or whatever. It's enough to induce rage quit in me, which is not my style. Also, I felt like they pushed the settlement quests too early in the game. You can ignore them for as long as you want, though, and it helps you build XP when you're still fragile.

Side quests so far seem to be a step down from Skyrim and FO3. Nearly every one has been "go kill raiders". It gets old. But again, they're mostly safe to do at lower levels.

The negatives for me are the wonky building (not crafting), the side quests, and pretty much anything related to roleplaying. Some of this is deliberate (like FO3, your character has a history), but some of it is related to gameplay issues. For example, I wish I had to take skills in order to craft. There's some throttling based on perk levels, but not much. Every player character in the game is a carpenter/mechanic/chemist/soldier/etc. I wish they'd limit that based on your choices for skills and attributes. I could go on, but I'm sure you've heard it all before.

Overall it's fun, looks great, and exploration is fantastic. ;)

It's good. Graphics are good enough for me. Guns actually sound really nice and they fixed up shooting. Weapon mods and such is pretty damn awesome.

The bad is the fps drops. If you are on PS4 at least people were not lying when they talked of frequent drops. I have been getting them all the time pretty much. Will definitely pick it up for PC next year as it does ruin the game for me. In some more crowded/city areas it feels like no man's land in Witcher 3.

Also I hate the dialogue option thing and voice acting. Before I thought I wouldn't be bothered but in motion it isn't great.

I'd recommend getting it, I'm sure they'll sort it out eventually.

Some people were though. That's the issue. Some have even gone so far to say that this has severely hurt Bethesda's reputation and they will be more cautious about their future titles. Pretty hasty generalization if you ask me.

This, all the way. BGS games have been horrendously buggy since Daggerfall. It's tradition. From my experience (on PC), they're doing much better for the last few games than in the past. They already had a rep with the several million players who played their games. I know they've had problems with the PS4, and I'd be aggravated if I couldn't play the game, but overall I think they're doing a lot better.

I have about 15 hours or so, really enjoying it. I have had a couple of minor bugs but nothing game breaking. It is a pretty solid game that will get better as it gets tweaked.

I am having a blast and I have been playing Beth games since 2004. There is enough new ideas in the game to keep me interested for hundreds of hours.

As a open world exploring game I would give it a solid 9 out of 10.

As a role playing game I would give it only 3 out of 10.

But that doesn't mean that I do not like it. It is just that Beth has slowly been removing those elements from the game.

And stay away from the PC version until the modders have had a go at fixing the UI and the other console ported things. I would happily recommend the game on console.
