Can someone help me pick between two games for 360?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:42 am

EDIT: I'd also like to know how these two games compare to Fallout: New Vegas (for 360). If any of you played F:NV on 360, can you perhaps give me a brief opinion on the game as a whole, as well as bugs/glitches (assuming I will be able to get the latest patch)? Is it significantly better than JC2 and/or Borderlands? How does it compare to Fallout 3? Thanks for any and all responses!

Can anyone help me decide between Just Cause 2 and Borderlands for 360? I've read a good deal about both and I've seen JC2 in action quite extensively. I have a pretty good idea of the pros and cons for both games. But I'm looking for some opinions from people who have actually played them for a good amount of time. If anyone could give me some advice here I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here are my main concerns for each game:

Borderlands
- Main appeal is the co-op, but I don't have LIVE and I know I'd probably play exclusively single player. Is it still worth getting if I don't plan on playing co-op?
- Heard it can get a bit repetitive... Is there a good variety of quests/missions, locations, etc.?
- Is there much to do outside of the main story?

Just Cause 2
- Heard this can get repetitive as well, and I can definitely understand why. Is this the kind of game that I'd realistically play for dozens of hours?
- I've heard that the world is just "too big" and/or not unique enough. Did you find this to be the case?
- Seems like I might end up just screwing around for most of my play time. Is this true? Is it still fun or would I get over it?

Some of my most played games = Oblivion, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed II, GTA IV

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've only played Borderlands so I can only give advice on that. Note that I never played any of the DLC and my opinions are based on the vanilla game.

Borderlands
- Main appeal is the co-op, but I don't have LIVE and I know I'd probably play exclusively single player. Is it still worth getting if I don't plan on playing co-op?

If you don't have live, don't get it. Honestly, I loved the multiplayer, and it's one of the best co-op experiences I've had. It's great fun and it's where 99% of the replayability is. There's split-screen, but I've never used it except for when I had to switch weapons between characters.

Borderlands
- Heard it can get a bit repetitive... Is there a good variety of quests/missions, locations, etc.?

Yes, singleplayer can and will get very repetitive. While it's a lot of fun to go through locations over and over again with friends, it gets dreadfully boring after the first or second run through in singleplayer. There are a lot of different levels, but they're all relatively empty with very little to do unless you're on the specific mission that requires you to go there. The quests aren't varied and really aren't that fun to go on by yourself. There's barely a story at all, and the story that is there is linear and not all that great.

Borderlands
- Is there much to do outside of the main story?

Not really. There are side quests if I remember correctly, but the main motivation for doing anything outside of the main story is collecting guns. The problem is, if you can't play multiplayer, after you get bored of the singleplayer in two or so weeks, all you'll be doing is finding guns. And that's relatively pointless because one of the big motivations to find cool guns is to show them off to your friends in multiplayer.

To summarize, if you can't play multiplayer, do not get this game. Perhaps someday when you can find it really cheap and have the money to spare, but without multiplayer you'll get bored really quickly and the level of entertainment you do get from the singleplayer isn't worth more than 10 bucks imo.

I have both games and I would pick Just Cause 2 since it is a free roamer while Borderlands is kind of linear. Both are great games, only get Borderlands if you have friends who own it and will play it with you. Otherwise get Just Cause 2.

I like the freedom of Just Cause 2, being able to go to an international airport and hijack the video game equivalent of a Boeing 747 is... refreshing. However it does get repetitive, and some missions can be actually quite difficult.

As much as I liked the unique features of Borderlands, I never finished it and never went back to it. Simply because I just didn't find it fun anymore. The comic book graphics get tiring after a while, as well.

I'd say Just Cause 2 just based on the fact you do not intend to play co-op in Borderlands. Trust me, Borderlands is not very fun playing single-player, however it has split-screen so Live is not needed.

Borderlands is fantastic! I haven't played Just Cause 2 so I cannot comment, so get Borderlands, besides Mass Effect, its the only 360 game I own.

Get JC2, it's a huge free-roaming world, I haven't got bored of playing with the tether mechanics and stuff and I've played it for hours.

Haven't played Borderlands but it looks pretty [censored].

Borderlands is easily the better game. But JC 2 offers plenty of short term fun. I would recommend Borderlands though.

Thanks for the replies guys. You've provided me with some very helpful feedback. I'm still torn at this point; it seems like Just Cause 2 has a bit more support here but both clearly have their drawbacks.

I'll be honest here too... I don't own Fallout New Vegas, and I've been toying with the idea of getting that for a while as well. But my main problem with that is that I've heard from a couple close friends that it was extremely buggy, to the point of being unplayable at times... Also, I don't have access to a decent PC so I'd have to buy it for 360. I know I'm probably opening up a can of worms here since this is a Bethesda site, but has anyone played F:NV on 360, and if so, could you give me your opinion of the game on that platform? Does it run well with the most current patch? How does it compare to Fallout 3?

I was really excited for New Vegas before it came out, but I heard some negative things so I never ended up buying it... Am I missing out? Wouldyou guys put that over JC2 and/or Borderlands, keeping in mind that I'm only considering it for the 360?

I had an alright time with Borderlands solo, but I can't imagine the appeal of it lasting the full price you'll pay for it. Get a friend over and play it co-op. That's where it's at.

Just Cause 2 is a blast (lol, pun). I barely made it through the storyline and found myself base jumping or doing ridiculous stunts.

If you don't have any friends to play with, I'd say Just Cause 2. I put around 50 hours into it before I set it aside (I get the feeling to play it from time to time). I can't comment on New Vegas, sorry. I never got it.

The negative stuff you heard about NV was probably just the bugs but the hardcoe aspects of it is fun and its deeper than fallout 3. My only problem is that a lot of the areas you find are just areas to fill up your map and not areas to actually explore. also, most building are blocked off so you cant enter them or they have no entrance to begin with.

Whether or not you'll like New Vegas really depends on what you liked about Fallout 3. If you mainly liked exploring the great sandbox Bethesda gave us in Fallout 3, and would like to explore again in New Vegas, then you'll be disappointed in it. New Vegas is essentially a great RPG that should have been set in a linear environment but was instead put into a dreadfully boring sandbox. If however you couldn't care less about exploring and just want stick to a straight line and do quests, then chances are good you'll like it. As for the bugs, I played it on PC so I can't really help you in regards to how it runs on the 360. I did encounter a good deal of bugs, though none of them were game-breaking, mostly just collision errors and immortal enemies. I haven't played it in some time so I don't know how well the patches have fixed the game.

- Dear God no.
- Dear God no.
-Dear God no.

I cant ephasize (or spell) just how bad/repetative Borderlands is.
Just realised my reasonswere repetative, yay thats agood example of the game.

Just Cause 2

-No you wouldt, it gets dull fast.
- It is, its too big and just bland, they focused onamount of land, not quality.
- You would screw around alot, there isnt that much to do eventually, becauseit gets boring quickly. I found screwing around in the game got old fast.

Some of my most played games = Oblivion, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed II, GTA IV

Fallout New vegas. I saw it for £15 on game, at £40 the game as amazing, I suggest that.

Borderlands is fantastic! I haven't played Just Cause 2 so I cannot comment, so get Borderlands, besides Mass Effect, its the only 360 game I own.

i thought you played Blops ?

My issue is the strip, it needs to be bigger, needs more npcs, more quests, it just fel small, rivet city felt bigger imo.
Agreed about pointless locations though.

Borderlands works fine on it's own. Multiplayer isn't really required to enjoy it (Though it is required to beat a certain boss...).

Just Cause 2 is also a great game but yeah, it really is too damn big.

Borderlands has the worst ending ever. And it gets a bit repetitive. But it's sorta fun if you enjoy shooters in general.

If you get Borderlands, get the GOTY edition. Comes with all four expansions and they're all fun in their own little ways.

Don't really know why people rag on Borderlands so damn much. Yes it's repetitive, but it's an FPS. FPS games are pretty much repetitive by nature.

People rag on this game because they thought it was going to be Fallout 3 with better shooting. They were expecting a massive game world and were disappointed by it when they played it. I didn't rag on it because I knew what it was like because my cousin gave me his copy after saying, "I never want to play this filth ever again." I remember him calling it "Borded up lands" because he was mad at paying 59.99 for a linear game. So yeah its mainly Fallout fans who were expecting a huge world that ragged on this game.

I haven't played just cause 2, but the first one was great. I remember the hours on end I would spend flying thousands of feet into the air just to jump out and zip around the map while skydiving. I played borderlands a bit, wasn't too thrilled, I'm still sad that they made it all cartoony rather than the original style from the game informer magazine that came out forever ago.

I was a Fallout fan and I never once thought it would be like that.

The game isn't even set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
