Can someone please explain leveled loot?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 3:30 pm

Im confused on the topic. I have read on here that loot has certain levels. So if I went to a barrow and found a leveled helmet, ( Helm of Ynongl for example) at level 30, im basically missing out on a better helmet if I dont wait say 5 or so levels? Sorry if that doesn't make sence.

You find better loot as you level up. Simple as that.

"Missing out"

Yeah, a little. But it should be good enough to be one of the best things for your level and should remain viable for a few levels past where you're at.

Obviously that doesn't apply if you're mixing enchant/alchemy/smithing because you're going to make better gear than you'll find almost always.

I believe the game has some sort of table defining the probability to find each kind of gear according to your level.

For example, if you're level 1, there's no way to find dwarven gear anywhere. But when you reach lvl 5 you have, say, 5% chance to find dwarven, 5% to find elven, 20% leather, etc. And so on..

Alright, and I also heard there is an armor cap? Is this true? Because if that is the case, I probally wont have to worry about managing leveled loot due to being able to upgrade with smithing.

Leveled loot usually refers to the loot table which randomly generates the loot in containers when you enter a dungeon. The chance for getting a really cool random item increases. However, there is also some static loot in dungeons handplaced by the builders, which will be the same no matter when you get it, usually because of the base item. There are also some quest rewards that will be better if you do the quest later, but many of these have upgrade options, anyway, such as the guild armors.

So say if I just got the Helm of Ynogl at level 31. It will be the same quality as if I got it at 50?

There's some evidence that even this may be leveled, as discussed in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1285543-hand-placeable-leveled-items/

Wait to get unique items till you are a higher level (50 preferably) seeing as how the items stats vary depending on your level. Mace of Molag Bal for example is 22 damage if obtained at level 3 but it will have 41 damage if obtained at level 51 (when i got it)
