Im going for the midnight release and I bought it for PC... I would think that steam would have an impact on FNV if steam were installed... why not just uninstall steam if you have it already, or just not install steam to lock the game?
Not to mention the patching process steam uses that takes a half a day to begin with, when the game is installed! Ha, if you have steam, and fallout new vegas, get ready to wait until the 18th to play FNV
Don't get so worked up over this, I have faith that it will be unlocked tuesday morning at 12am, and I will be playing all night long!
To clarify, Fallout NV PC is a Steamworks game. What that means is that no matter where you buy your PC version, you have to use Steam to play it. That means Steam has to be installed. It also means that your computer has to be connected to the internet when you install the game so that Steam can verify your copy is legit (a form of copy protection). After that you can tell Steam to go into "offline" mode and not bother with an internet connection again. What the Steamworks connection also means is that until Steam considers the game active and opens up the servers to accept the copy protection check, the game will not work. The question at this point is whether Steam's countdown clock (which points to the middle of the day on the 19th, varying by timezone) is when we can play or if they will move that up to midnight given the GameStop midnight launch event. As noted in an earlier post, moderator GStaff told us he was looking into that question a few days ago and also said it might not be until Monday before he would have an answer.
