Can we still do normal %crits outside of Vats?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:08 pm

Or did they completely turn it into an action game thing?

I sure hope we can do normal crits and also raise SPECIAL every few levels, because until we learn more this game seems as much of an RPG as the latest FarCry or MGS.

I see the Crit bar added as an alternate attribute pool. In lieu of Health / Magicka / Stamina, we get Health / Critical / Action Points.

Not sure if they mentioned using it outside of VATS. I think as far as we know, it only popped up during VATS. However, I'd imagine it would would work by targeting an enemy outside of VATS as well. Provided you have enough Crit juice and the icon pops up accordingly.

I'm not talking about the crit bar, I mean are crits in general still in the game? like "15%" chance to crit when just spamming your attacks outside of vats.

I was wondering about that. The Luck description when you're choosing your SPECIAL points says that it increases the recharge rate of your critical hit bar, but doesn't mention random crits. At the very least, I hope they left in sneak attack criticals, since they're so important for sniping and stealth.

I see no reason why not when they are making improvements to FPS shooter portion.

I'm saying, ( I think ) the % chance is removed all together. The mechanics and the ability to execute a crit seems to be based off of the bar.

I absolutely loathe the idea of a crit bar and i hope they give us an option to disable it. Having something like that pop up on my screen would annoy me to no end. Crits should be a random occurrence that we are lucky to get; being able to control them is a [censored] idea and is actually the one thing so far that causes me concern about this game.

I'd rather have no crits at all than an at will crit system.

Not really. Having no random critz doesn't matter if you are a Sniper. Usually, Snipers don't do random critz because they have the ability to do 100% critical hits easily (rather be it a sneak attack critical or a headshot critical).

It might be that crits are based on where you hit an opponent outside of VATS. So shooting an enemy in the face with an antimateriel rifle will always result in a crit. Honestly, I have no idea.

I think if you take a hit to the face from an Antimaterial Rifle should equal instant death with or without crit.

I'm sure sneak attack crits are still in and don't operate off the crit bar. I can't honestly believe that they'd be that stupid to do otherwise. Inside of VATS, I actually welcome the change: luck still gives us more crits and you get rid of the randomness of it. Of course, that does mean a nerf to many energy weapons which have always been my favorite :(

Outside of VATS, the bar has me a little worried, but I'll reserve judgement until we get more details. And any outcome would likely not dissaude me from picking this up day 1.

I can only hope they give an option to disable it, or a modder quickly does it.

One interesting point is that activate crit did not come up during the gatling shooting at lest not as I remember.

Leaves some option like that crit happens automatically or not at all outside vat or that its saved up to you enter vat.

Headshot criticals might be a thing finally for sniper rifles. So far, the only real reason to do a headshot is because the head is the fastest and best part to cripple (except against Deathclaws).

Always hated how you can hit them in the head with a .50 bullet, doing a good bit of damage due to crippling their head then the next shot does normal damage...

I'm actually starting to wonder if anything will effect stuff like reload speed and gun damage, or if they went full shooter in that stuff and everyone is same.
