I made a new character about 5 days ago. I thought "YES! A fresh new character, first Imperial, first Vampire. Im gonna play this for ages!"
Just re loaded my Helgen save to make a new one -__-
I'll probably just make a pretty character then reload a previous save.
I think its just the fact that ive tried every possible play style. Mage, warrior, theif, assasin, battlemage, barbarian, archer, and more.
I need to find a new and fresh style. Any suggestions?
Try a pure defence build. Only use shield bash

I do this sooo much.. Glad to hear that there are several people doing the same. I usually find that I messed up and I have a new idea on how to build my characters. I did this a lot in Oblivion too. I always do the first playthrough on a sneaky archer, then after I've had my temporary fill of that character type I make something else.

Skyrim restarting is the new/old Skyrim hoarders syndrome. My character needs a Skyrim therapist before she starts collecting too many rolls of paper and charcoal stubs. Unless I delete her again.

I always end up making a new character after some time just when i get a cool new "build" idea for one. Most of the time it is because i believe the scenario I have envisioned would not coincide with the morales and persona i have given to the current character. For example my noble stormcloak warrior would not turn around and become an assassin.

I too am guilty of this. Its a horrible addiction, one that I hope I've cured myself of.

Just think about which skills you like the most, and try to combine them.

I've made some pretty powerful builds in the past, but I haven't stuck with them because they just didn't feel.. "Me".

Most of those had melee incorporated in them, so this time I'm planning on staying away from close combat all together.

it only took me 3 restarts before i found a look and play style i really like. the 1st guy was really a test run to feel skyrim out and the other 2 helped me narrow down what i liked and didnt like. Now i have 2 completely different characters that i really enjoy and switch between when bored...ive just started a 3rd to get ready.to be a vamp lord

Each restart should teach you something about what you like, trim the fat away and enjoy the sweet meat thats left ;)

Doesn't anybody just play and figure out who the character is as you go along?

No.

AARRGGHH!! Too many "toons". It's an Avatar or Player Character, this isn't WoW. Rant over, lol.

Aarrgg... I've done it again, I got to level 20 and decided that I wanted a new character... But with the same skills just a different race and gender. I have a female Nord one handed warrior with restoration in the off hand. And now I want to make a male orc. I've never had an Orc yet but I like the way male armor looks.

I know I'm not alone in this but I have been doing it since December and have only completed the college of winterhold like 20 characters ago.

Why make them with the same skillset? You need more variety.

I've currently got four active characters and one retired. None of them are the same. It's not because I got bored of them, but because I thought of different stories.

I often do this until I find a race/class/gender/looks combination that I enjoy and can roleplay with. I have maybe ten characters who never made it out of Helgen.

I never leave a character in Helgen, I find their story doesn't start forming propely until after they leave.

This kinda thing happens for a lot of people. I think its partly to do with the fact your character feels about as deep as a puddle. And you have no penalty for doing things that you don't feel like you should. Try roleplaying some quirks. I didn't do as much roleplaying once upon a time, buy by the time I had started my 15th+ character on Skyrim, I wanted to try something to make them last. I decided to develop a character that will always feel weak compared to my enemies, and instead be forced to use tactics and terrain to my advantage over raw power.
Also attempting one of the hardest things to pull in Skyrim... being a good person. Don't loot the crypts, don't murder, just paralyze the bandits and run for it (ya, I had to do a lot of running before I finally got that spell (total humans killed so far, 0))
Truth be told, many of the Dragonborns are the worst kind of people. Stealing souls, devouring dragon souls, killing, murder, grave robbing, desecrating the dead... ya.

dont loot crypts? so indiana jones is a bad guy?

killing isnt muder if you kill someone who's trying to muder you ;)

also "killing" those that are already dead doesnt count because they're dead...you're just returning them to a peaceful rest. I always "kill" draugr before they wake up

I restarted like around 50 times (don't worry most of them didn't get to level 10) because of the following reasons:

-Bugs, glitches, etc. that affect the story (like preventing a mission to be completed)
-I don't like the way I look or the race I'm playing
-I visited the other holds to fast and now I'm fast traveling all over the place, with my main goal: doing as much missions as possible.

But the biggest reasons is;
Making a choice in the game (like stealing something) that I come to regret...restarting the game and make such a moral decision again..wrong again.
+ the overall feel of: the end is drawing near...

Awww yes I'm having this problem myself. I know what I want my build to be, but I can never stick with it, and always end up starting over. There's always something that is just slightly off in my mind about it, and I'm rather OCD so it bugs me enough to want to start over.

Indeed.

Ah the all too frequent case of restartitis. Try going into depth when you create your character. Make them unique and give them a backstory. That usually helps for me.

This helps me out a lot. I created a backstory for him and I don't look back.

I always say that " my file got deleted randomly" but if you look closely at my signature that 2nd character should be the 999999999th

I restarted a lot early on, I had about 8 or 9 characters and I'd play one for a few days then a different one and so on but I realised I was making no progress in completing the quests. So I started a new character and stuck with just that one for 170 hours, now he's at level 70 with not so many quests remaining, probably 30 hours or so left. One character I played forty hours on then started again the same character, just because I'd put my perks in he wrong place.

A few days back I started a new character on master, a Khajit who uses shield and unarmed. He's at level 13, one shots weak bandits, I can take down giants now I'm a bit stronger and I killed my first sabre cat at level 8. Quite fun to play, take fists of steel perk, put lots of points into health and your well away. Later on when I'm fighting harder foes I'll put fortify unarmed on gauntlets and ring so I'll be able to handle those pesky Ancient Dragons.

If it gets harder than I expect I'll max out armour, as a last resort (won't be needed) marked for death will even the odds big time.

This never really affects me, I can't ever stick to a role in Elder Scrolls games so I've always appreciated the fact that a "jack of all trades" is viable, it's not necessarily the most efficient playstyle but I like the freedom. When playing Fallout games I'm usually way more specialised, mostly because the game mechanics (especially in New Vegas) really reward your skill choices but also because I feel myself playing more of a character in that setting.

I know how to have with TES games. I just don't know how to have your brand of fun.

On Topic: I suddenly feel the need to start my character over again. :(

i have that too and hope to get over this soon.

it started after i lost my main by over saving him. i know almost all sidequests from him, that's why i am mostly quitting characters after completing guilds and/or main quest

Part of the reason I have so many hours in the game (though not so much as others on here) is because I restart to experiment on new things for my characters. When I first started, I didn't go into too many perk trees.. now I go into a few more and enjoy the game more than I had been. I'm hoping my current playthrough will replace my most recently saved character.

I have considered playing another race other than what I am (see avatar), but I can't bring myself to. I'm also hoping to play Dawnguard on my current playthrough, and a slightly older one.

I can't tell you how many times i started my assassin/thief character over and over again, its like a disease really lol

I have other types of characters as well like pure mage and warriors and hybrid mixes, but i always stick to my assassin/thief play style, but i cant for the life of me get past lvl 20-25 without restarting it lol

Used to have that problem back in morrowind. Put a story on your character, make them unique. I have HEAPS of characters in skyrim but each one has atleast 30 plus hours on them.
For example I have a character that is an ancient nord, so he runs around wearing ancient nord armor searching every tomb and dungeon he can find. Then I have another that is a khajit but he never enters a city, because other khajits are aloud.
Start of small roleplaying then work your way up to big storys for your character, limit yourself aswell. dont use fast travel. dont ride horses. eat and sleep .
