I can't stop restarting

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:22 pm

Aarrgg... I've done it again, I got to level 20 and decided that I wanted a new character... But with the same skills just a different race and gender. I have a female Nord one handed warrior with restoration in the off hand. And now I want to make a male orc. I've never had an Orc yet but I like the way male armor looks.

I know I'm not alone in this but I have been doing it since December and have only completed the college of winterhold like 20 characters ago.

I do it too.
I'm always getting ideas for new and interesting characters and play styles.

I know how you feel, I done it a dozen time but I switch class instead of gender. Like when I got a 2 handed warrior to level 30, i wanted an archer/assassin type, when I got my assassin, I wanted a magic character, I was never able to max out any magic skill because I just svck at playing them...

Ah the all too frequent case of restartitis. Try going into depth when you create your character. Make them unique and give them a backstory. That usually helps for me.

I tend to do this also. I have more fun building them up than playing them lol

Same here and I need to stop right? I have a lv 53 Khajitt, lv 60 Nord, lv 23 Orc. another lv18 Orc and ANOTHER lv 28 Orc, lv 1 Wood elf, lv 2 High elf and a lv 2 Nord.

I can't keep from starting over lol. new character, get to riverwood and stop. man. I think its just that early on you get a sense of accomplishment due to lv and perk increases happening more often. My lv 60 Nord has max'd out all the perks that I use and I feel like I have come to an end with her. All main and most side quests completed. :(

I had the same thing all of last week. I spent most of my game time in Helgen constantly restarting not knowing what to do. Or I'd get a char to level 10 and realize I did something wrong or I want to change something. I've finally settled down now that I've perfected the aesthetics of my Altmer though.

I've only played with this one character. I started out role-ing specifically as a blacksmith that has had his fill of fighting. It became apparent that smithing could kill the fun of the game, so I decided that my character will only use skyforge steel legendary war axes (one enchanted to fill soul gems, the other plain).

I've gotten the character up to level 56 so far, and I haven't done nearly everything. I don't intend to do everything either. Heck, I haven't even been to several of the villages.

I find it interesting to gimp the character in general ways to begin with and then refine the gimping along the way. For example, I never ruled out magic for my thief/smith but I did rule out conjuration. I just didn't feel that a smith would conjure things.. And other things like only one house and I only fast travel using carts (I picked this gimp up along the way). But I must admit that if I choose to move from one home to another I pack up everything (far exceeding a realistic carry limit, I know) and then I make the slow journey to my horse and I then fast travel to my new home and make the slow journey from my horse to my new house. It's nice to be able to fast travel when over-encumbered on a horse, but I only use it for moving from home to home.

Wow you got to LVL20? You sir are doing much better than me then. I started to accept it as I am starting to go to different cities with my new guys and doing a few quest in those cities then getting borde and starting over. I think I got a winner now though but I am only LVL5 right now doing Makarath quest. But I am happy with my toons. Even though I havent gotten too high level wise I have made some intreasting toons and have been to some intreasting places.

Here's something I would be curious to know:
Those of you who are constantly restarting... What system do you play on? Xbox, PS3, PC?

I do this as well, usually I get to level 10 and then start thinking about a different build or race, and submit to the temptation to restart.

Maybe this game just isn't for me, or I'm just so indifferent that I can't make any long lasting decisions in this game.

BTW I play on X - Box.... Ohhh, you're probably thinking about mods, aren't you?
The mindless dungeon looting does get quite stale after a while...

I'm on PS3. It's not that the game gets stale for me I feel like there is so much to choose from that while I play one toon I run into an NPC or read something in this forum then all of a sudden think hey I want to make a character that is compleatly different from what I currently have. It wouldn't be so bad but as soon as I stop playing one I just can't get that same intreast back later on. Guess I like my characters like I like my women, when I love them I love them but I am always ready to move on to the next.

I'm playing on Xbox but I have done this since morrowind. But I was eventually able to make characters that I liked in both morrowind and oblivion

I'm the opposite, I've tried starting again a couple of times, but I can't help going back to my first character, who's level 56.

I have a save at prisoner. Just before he asks who I am.
Do you crash in the cut scenes after that?

Same. Started one and then another later on. Now the second is my primary at level 45. The secondary (the original) is level 24....I believe. Both are very different from each other and I play the character that best suits my mood when I fire the game up. These are the only two I've ever created for Skyrim.

May be about to start a 3rd. Its been rolling around in my head for about 2 weeks now. I need one that is just completely chaotic and borderline out of control. Still working out the details in my melon.

All it takes is time, the right spells, and Shadowmere as a target. You'll max them out in no time.

I often do this until I find a race/class/gender/looks combination that I enjoy and can roleplay with. I have maybe ten characters who never made it out of Helgen.
