Can we talk about that jumpsuit?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 5:42 pm

I haven't seen anyone, anywhere pointing this out:

In the trailer, we get a great shot of the man from the vault, pimped out in all vault-tec glory, petting his dog at the end. Except...the numbers on his back don't match the font found on every other vault-tec jumpsuit - even going beyond 101. In fact, it looks painted on.

Anyone else spot this? Any ideas, speculation, suggestion?

I could have been done as an artistic style towards the whole scavenging feel of the Fallout games. Only so many new and unused Vault suits going around.

Why would anyone make a "fake" vault jumpsuit?

Is being a bright blue and yellow target in the wasteland that appealing?

I imagine that I would ditch that jumpsuit ASAP after getting out of the vault. Perhaps they're really comfy/bulletproof, explaining why vault dwellers hang onto them.

Ah, sorry no. I meant that the actual art direction of the trailer itself could be the reason behind the seemingly painted numbers. If you were desperate enough to make a fake Vault suit out in the Wastelands, I'd have to question your sanity. Ha!

Oh, well. No I just think they're using a more classic Fallout aesthetic.

I still remember the fury from purists over the FO3 jumpsuits.

In Fallout 1 it was implied that the skintight jumpsuit was used as kind of a underwear/armor at least when you look at the icons of armors. So it made sense in a way. In FO3/NV there it was a piece of clothing.

This. The vault suit in the trailer looks more like the suit design in the first two games. They did this with the power armor too.

Exactly, it doesn't match the font at all, and the "ones" look uneven.

Vault suits are ugly anyway. I plan on discarding mine first opportunity. Hell, I might even run around in my glued on underwear until I find a better alternative!

It's probably just a stylistic shift, and not anything lore-related.

If that's the case, the jumpsuits from the first two games still had #1s with "feet" on them (the part that sitcks out at the top). The jumpsuit in the F4 trailer doesn't even have a notch there.

Perhaps, I just hope not. Seems like a silly thing not to be consistent on simply due to an oversight or wanting to change the style.

Just a shift in art probably. The whole enterance to Vault 111 is way different that any other Vault. It's exposed to the surface painted in vault-tech blue and yellow.

I imagine if you spent all your life in one set of clothes, you just get accustomed to them.

Imagine the culture shock people probably never RPed out...

"Wait...you mean, no more jumpsuits...? Is that even possible...? But...so many pieces...Pants? Belts? Shirts? Wait wait wait...slow down, I need a moment..."

Yeah because FO3/NV aren't Fallout games for you. I know. Which raises the question why even care...

I think it is interesting that if the suit was made for him from the extruders then that would explain skintight over baggy, since it was form fitted for that person. Not too worried about vault suits. one thing that is pretty constant over the years with fallout, the suits have some skill buffs etc, but they are never something we ever wore for very long.

With 111 at least this time if they mess up and put them backwards on the suits like a few former games have done, you will never know lmao!!!!!

Ive always wanted to make a cosplay version of the Vault suits but i prefer the more functional work coveralls over the super hero skin tight suit. I also had hoped it would be something i could wear for a lengthier time frame till i found an upgrade in game. I hope it was just something they did for the trailer.

Its a combination of the first 2 Fallouts and Fallout 3 and NV. Its tight as the old 2 but the numbers were the 3 and NV with a bit more of an artistic look.
