So I was thinking about this for awhile.

Just picture this in your head.

You entered a dark cave. On your way through you see a huge spider weaving his web. Now he hasn't noticed you yet. You see him crawling in the dark shadow on the ceiling when he finished his web. Now you quickly grab your torch and flame his web! When you have done that the fire will probably lead to the spiders his hole where his web is coming from so that he will burn to dead.

Now my questions are.

Is this possible? Or can't you burn the spider his web?

And can the spider shoot webs at you to catch you when you are facing him in combat?


If this will not be possible I will be a little sad.

I would be extremely surprised if the spiders are not shooting webs at us.

My hope is everything that's made of an inflammable material is actually inflammable. Houses, roofs, beds, all the living bodies, etc. You can set someone on flames with an arrow or a fireball. You can start a fire inside towns to lure the guards off your target building. Fire is cool to play with and it goes hand in hand with destructible environments. Yes, spiders and their webs would be among my favorites for burning.

Probably not. Are spider webs actually flammable? I really don't know.

I doubt this will be implemented, as it didn't make sense for me. On the other hand is a fantasy game and not all decision developers take have to match what I think make sense.

You can at least shoot at it with flaming arrows. I don't know about environmental elements like webs. I'd love it. I wonder if you will ever be able to escape when you run into a web. Sounds like the nightmare of every explorer/adventurer.

Do it like Dwarf Fortress: Trapped in a web, paralyzed, eaten alive with the ten friends that came to rescue you.

I don't know. They were in Ocarina of Time. I'm gonna go find out.

The answer is no, they will burn though, however the bigger the spider the more resistance. If you're going to want to burn the web you'll have to use a very hot spell, but it wouldn't work like you speculated. (This is in reference to the OP)

As much as I like this idea, I doubt it will happen.
Skyrim is still an RPG and this would be easy mode. I could see this happen in Dark Messiah Might and Magic, but in a TES game? Not so much.

I bet there will be one spider who's like "You want to step into my web here? Right here? What about, say... over there? No? Right here?"

Spiderman is so lucky he doesn't have any fire based enemies.

It's an interesting idea. But I am probably going kamikaze in spider lairs, since I absolutely hate spiders, arachnophobia I guess. If they can catch me with the web, oh god, I'm in for a huge ride xD. Anyway, as feared as I am, it won't stop me from trying to kill the living hell of the damn spiders.

Unless a dev specifically states that spiders will weave webs or flames can spread I'm not making any assumptions for either. There will be webs, obviously, but there's no mention that spiders will be making them during the game.
