Can we visit Solitude

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:28 pm

Has anyone seen a list of the cities available in Skyrim? I believe one place said there'd only be 5 major cities. I was rereading http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-biography-wolf-queenn and am now hoping we get to see Castle Solitude. Of course it might work better as a dungeon filled with Undead.

Yeah, its in for sure, and visible on the map. It will likely be referred to by its original name "Haafingar" (because devs mentioned this name in one the developer videos)

Potema, the Wolf Queen, is dead.

Solitude still exists in modern day Skyrim, though.

Solitude is in the trailer. It's the city with the windmill and the big arching rock.

The 5 Major Cities are:

Solitude (Haafingar)
Markarth (Karthwasten)
Whiterun
Windhelm
Riften

3 or 4 Medium Cities

Dawnstar
Winterhold
Falkreath

20+- Small Cities

Riverwood

Didn't know that thank you for correcting

It'll be refered to as Solitude because the City did Officially change the name same as Markarth which I still refer it as Markarth Side

Is this confirmed information? If so, thanks! I had been wondering where we would be heading in terms of the major cities =]

Markarth is actually Karthwasten if you compare the official map to Arena's map.

Do you think it'll be called Markarth or Karthwasten in Skyrim?

It's going to be called Markarth, just like Haafingar is now called Solitude.

I get that, but if you'll take a look at the Arena map again and look a little to the northeast of Karthwasten Hall you'll see Markarth Side.

Yes, but "Markarth Side" isn't in the same location as Markarth.

I overlayed both maps to show you more clearly.

Dawnstar
Winterhold
Falkreath

Wait, so 3 of the 8 major cities of the province got demoted to "medium?" And I had thought that Winterhold was supposed to the the effective "capital" of Skyrim; while Solitude got more press thanks both to it being the northernmost city and the last bastion of the Wolf Queen, it wasn't the provincial capital.

Of course, as far as locations go, it isn't all of Skyrim if it doesn't get all eight major cities. The minor cities come and go; they're easily fudged on.

You may want to post this list in the threat about "Massive cities." They're freaking out over there. Because clearly "five main cities" means that only five of the places you list will be included.

What is going to be the capital city? If we can expect all five cities to be "massive" just how much bigger will the capital be?

Well, the capital's going to be one of those eight largest cities. It's long-established that those are the eight largest cities in Skyrim. I'd highly doubt that gamesas would go out of their way and spend lots MORE effort in order to break nearly-decades-old-lore.
