Can you becmoe a High King if you kill Ulfric and Galmar?

I'm asking in context of lore.

The Dragonborn is like the third in command, right? It probably means that if Galmar and Ulfric are to perish in an unfortunate accident, s/he will be in control of stormcloaks. However, I wonder if DB can even vie for the kingship? Or would a new high king be chosen among one of the Jarls, and DB would become something like a military supreme general?

What would happen to DB's position if both Ulfric and Galmar died, assuming that s/he is ambitious and we ignore non-civil war questline(including defeating aludu'in and becoming the savior of the world)?

I don't think DB has claim to the throne, but s/he might be able to become a grey eminence with stormcloaks under his control. On the other hand, if s/he sided with the empire, since legionaries loyalty is to the empire, not to general Talius, it will be extremely difficult to personalize the army.

I'm digressing here but that's why I usually go with SC, cuz you have a better chance of gaining more power. SC are loyal to Ulfric, which mean if he dies their loyalty can be directed to another person, which could be DB in this case.

No. Ulfric is still not the high king even if the CW is completed for the SCs because the moot has not made it official.

Now, if Ulfric were challenged and defeated if he were the high king, then yes, your rule would be legitimate.

if Ulfric and Galmar died it would be the end of the Stormcloaks...

Having not only your Leader, but his Chief Adviser being killed would be a major blow too the morale of any Rebel force...

the SC would be brought down by infighting, as each Officer would think they should be the new Commander of the forces.. Possibly split into several Sub-factions all of which are hostile to each other (sort of a Civil War within a Civil War)..

At least, that is my prediction from what I remember of a course i took at University all about the studies of ancient Cultures and war tactics...

Well;
technically no.
But if you defeated the Empire in the name of the Stormcloaks, and then killed Ulfric and Galmar, then you'd probably end up becoming High King; assuming you had a good reason to kill them, or someone else killed them, w/e. If you flat out murder them, the only thing you're going to get is the chopping block.

But then, as Funnybunny said, Skyrim would tear itself apart, and either the Empire or the Dominion would come back in and take over with an iron fist. You'd have to get every Jarl, including Ulfric, to consent to your authority in order to avoid a civil war and make sure that Skyrim isn't weakened any further.
